 Arizona 2003.
8" x 9 1/2". Colored Pencil on Cardboard. 2003.
After going to a retreat in Prescott, Arizona, in the late summer of 2003
I drove to Phoenix on the back roads through the Prescott National Forest
and through the town of Wickenburg. This desert scene is typical of part
of that journey. There was a low range of mountains in the background with
small cactus and creosote bushes in the foregound. Collection of Alex Stevenson and Alice Travlos,
Queenstown, Tasmania. Ref# 2003-100. Slide# 73743_05.

 Cavalliere's Black Smith Shop.
5" x 6 1/2". Pastel on Cardboard. 2003.
Cavalliere's Black Smith Shop was built on the edge of town in Scottsdale,
Arizona in 1910. The original building was made of tin which was replaced
by this adobe structure in 1920. I cycle past this building every week
and have enjoyed the old adobe buildings like this one and the old adobe
mission church several doors down on Brown in the heart of the old town of
Scottsdale. I am also particularly fond of the blacksmith shop because it
is a working blacksmith and it reminds me of my time spent working at
one of the forges at Wymondham College making things out of raw iron
materials in Mr Seeley's metalwork class.
