A Writer's Journey With Jeff

This may be my last entry in this weblog for the time being. With Geocities ending their Geoplus program entirely, all the pages in this site now get that annoying pop-up window - which hides text, ruins my design, etc...
I know that sites need to sell advertising to companies to pay for free Webspace, but this is just ridiculous.
I'm currently looking for a less oppressive WPP. Once I find it, this entire site and Weblog will be moved.

I produced my entire zine within a few days. I wish I could say the same thing about Comicopia... Meanwhile, I just checked my newsletter subscriber stats on Topica: I gained a few more in 24 hours. At this rate, I'll break the magic 100 subscriber number in a few issues!
I also heard back from that magazine I pitched to. Their first issue is filled, but they invite me to pitch a piece. Their page rate (or rather, per-word rate) seems a bit low, but just being published again would be great.

13 days since my last post. Wow. Like many of you, the terror attacks of 9-11 left me too depressed to do anything, let alone write.
I have to get back on track though; my next newsletter deadline is next Sunday, and I've barely started it. My next issue of Comicopia is also due October 12th, and I haven't started my next zine at all. Time to put the pedal down.

Most of my readers may not have yet seen it, but I had a coding bug here since yesterday: a list for some reason was practically invisible for the most part in my last post. The solution: I removed the list. The formatting won't be as pretty, but at least the information is there.

A few things writing-wise have happened for me in the past few days: - The magazine I spoke of pitching ideas to sent me back an answer: it read like a form letter, but they said that right now they're just building up an idea of their writing pool available... when they officially launch the magazine, they'll start contacting the folks they're interested in quickly.
- My Apacalypse zine was ready on time. A thin offering at 11 pages, but at least I got it done on time!
- I hadn't heard anything from my editor at RPGAction in a month, so I tried one of the other editors.
Everything's still on -- in fact, the publisher of the game system I last reviewed wants me to get a copy of their next title to review too.
Proof that a fair review, even a negative one, still gets positive recognition.

I e-mailed a pitch to a magazine editor yesterday, to try to get some freelance writing contracts from them. The magazine claims to be youth-culture oriented, looking for work that fits that mold. Being as how I've been a professional wrestling columnist for several years now, I'd liike to parlay it into at least one piece.
Meanwhile, I just had a surprise: I checked out the Website for Guardians of Order, an RPG company I'm interested in writing for. I discovered that the line editor for the line I'm most interested in writing for is someone I used to know, and game with.

I sent off issue 3 of my newsletter a few hours ago. Time to start issue 4. I'm also hard at work on my next Apacalypse zine; the electronic deadline for that is next Friday at noon.
One thing that's slowed me down: I've begun reaching back into my BBS (Bulletin Board Service) community in Montreal. As a result, I've been calling a few extra systems daily. Hey, who needs sleep?
