Saturday, June 16 - Niagara-on-the-Lake
7 am - breakfast at hotel
8:30 - pick-up by bus (part of the package)
Start tour: one or two historical places, then vineyard/wine-tasting
tour
Proceed to Niagara-on-the-lake town proper; to be dropped off by bus
See the town proper: watch strawberrie festival activities (bake sale;
fruit sale, parade); visit shops; visit bakeries/food shops for
lunch/picnic by lake (we'll play it by ear: we can either have
lunch early
together at the vineyard, or lunch late by the lake with food we purchase
form the town)
Laze by the lake -- after a while, people can go back to the town to
shop
(lots of beautiful boutiques, jewelry stores), or watch a George Bernard
Shaw matinee play (will get you the selection soon; if interested,
please
let me know); go back to the lakeside, we can take turns sharing updates,
jokes, etc.; some may want to walk around some more, or take a nap
by the
lake, or take photos of the beautiful scenery; watch the sunset.
(I'm
trying to arrange for a group-rate dinner in one of the restaurants.
this
costs around $30 per. If you want a more informal baon-type dinner,
we'll
eat whatever food purchases we get from the foodshops (sandwiches,
salads)
and eat by the lake. We can stay by the lake for as long as we
want --
this is where we can start our life updates -- kahit mag-ingay, puede,
o
kung hindi man puede, huhulihin lang naman tayo ng pulis -- tuloy ang
updates sa precinct - hehe. The bus can pick us up even late in the
night.
Estimate expenses for the bus for the whole Saturday ($300 - to be
shared
by around 25-30 people -- okay ba ito?)

Separate tickets to Maid of the Mist ride: $10.60 adults; $6.55 children
9:00 -- Journey Behind the Falls
10:30 -- Maid of the Mist Ride
11:30 -(have lunch at Maid of the Mist fast food or table Rock
Restaurant
(approximately $20 per)
1:00 - The Great Gorge Adventure
2:00 Niagara Spanish Aero Car
3:30 - a touch of Canadian history; MacKenzie House and Laura Secord Homestead
6:00 -- free time -- shopping/ go around Niagara Falls town -- lots
of fun
places especially for the young and young at heart
or we can find a nice spot at the Niagara Park -- enjoy the sights and
the
company once more (with such great company in a beautiful place, we
can use
the hours in a special way that you would want)
Here I want to make a survey: Would you want to dine again at Skylon
on our
last night together, enjoy the sunset -- at around 9pm, and the lights
again) and have coffee after; who wants dancing? or daldalan na lang?

The Niagara Air Bus is an Airport Land Transport Service that operates
both
out of the Toronto and Buffalo airports. They use different kinds of
vehicles including Shuttle Bus, Mini-vans and Cars. I spoke to an agent
and
the rates are actually graduated/indexed. Basically, one way fare to
the
Holiday Inn from Buffalo airport is something like:
1) Can$ 52 for one sharing with 'other' people
2) Can$ 88 for one non-shared car
3) Can$ 76 for two people
4) Can$ 125 for a four-passenger car
5) Can$ 185 for a ten-passenger van
6) bigger groups negotiated rates
The morning arrivals would therefore have several alternatives on how
to
avail of the services depending on how we group ourselves. For Potit,
the
worst case is Can $52, probably less if more come in at the same time
like
Edith and Eric, or even Rudy. Each group (or individidual as probably
in
Potit's case) should call (905-374-8111) for a reservation at least
48-hours
before (I would recommend earlier to avoid any potential hitch). Anyway,
I
volunteer (I promised Mila I'll help) to coordinate with everybody
coming
through Buffalo. Please let me know your preference.
Elmer
Subject: Reserve na kayo sa Holiday Inn by the Falls! Ganito lang, per Mila:
Holiday Inn By the Falls is OUR Hotel: the one right next to Skylon
(where
we will dine first night) in Niagara Falls (Canada side of course:
5339
Murray St.
Rates: I got a discount by virtue of the fact that I could site
-- once
and for all -- that more than 20 are definitely coming. So the
hotel rates
per night for 3 nights for our group are:
$CDN125 per with 12% tax or a total of $140 per room with double beds
which
can accommodate from 2-4 people. (This is down from the previous
CDN$145
plus tax)
To reserve a room, call this number: 905-356-1333 Ext. (from Monday
to
Friday) and ask for Kathleen Skinner, Group rates person -- our contact
person. Here is what you do. Identify yourself as a member
of the
University of the Philippines group and submit your card number, your
name,
etc. You can ask all the questions you want.
If calling after 5 on weekdays or anytime during weekends and Skinner
is
not in, ask for ext. 0 and just explain you're with the group.
Now there is a 1-800 number for people calling from the States:
1-800-263-9393, but most probably they might still refer you to the
group
rates special number above.

Mila and Efren in Toronto were on
the phone last night, and that means the
2001 Niagara on the Lake reunion
is ON!
Bilin ni Efren: Magdala daw tayo
ng gamot sa cholesterol, kasi maraming
matataba na kakainin doon! At saka,
puwede raw tayo maglatag dun sa
'mansion' niya. Nag-i-schedule
na rin siya ng barbecue doon. Bahala daw siya
dun sa delegasyon ng California,
aba't mukhang guaranteed perfect attendance
sila!
Si Mila, ipina-ca-canvass na kung
sino ang mga lilipad doon from here.
Sinu-sino nga ba? Yung mga inuman
boys daw, magbasa na ng broadcast e-mail
para updated sa plans. Ini-entice
ako sa image na one ice cream cone on each
hand, magkaibang flavors. Kaya
sabi ko, baka dapat ay yung time na hindi na
masyadong maginaw, otherwise paano
kakain ng ice cream kung giniginaw?

Hi Ed, Tony, wouldn't it be nice if you too can be part
of our
Niagara-on-the-Lake Committee? Please, please
say yes. The three of us
from Toronto (Efren, Carrie and I) will meet about 2001
plans, only after
we get in touch or you, or you get in touch with us regarding
this. May I
suggest that we e-mail each other (all e-mails
cc'd to all Canadian
classmates) and then do a conference call? This
weekend would be fine,
unless you have other suggestions. Will eagerly
await any word from you.
Also, calling on our East Coast and West Coast classmates:
Please give us
suggestions on your best dates. Ling/Elmer and
co., Daddie/Jojo and co.,
please connect as well. Then we can relay our collective
suggestions to
Manila.
Just to keep things going, anyway...Good to start while
the chilly weather
has not yet set in, as the bitter winter cold has a way
of freezing even
the best plans -- joke only.
Many thanks and warm regards,
Mila
