The Uncle Sam image works for some many types of articles that I never hesitated to use it for a draft story. It's not overexposed. It still packs a punch. But we didn't have a decent version for the cover. And he had to run large. I recreated the image from a reference picture of an old, old copy of the original poster. It wasn't diluted by generational reproduction or a series of recreations. This was a painterly image, and remaking that in Illustrator, a potentially stiff art program, was a challenge. This sucker took about 15 hours of work, and it looks fantastic.Maybe my favorite cover ever, just for the technical work required.
