HERALD-JOURNAL
I was able to bamboozle the editors to let me do some illustration work for the county daily while working as a copy editor. When the annual South Carolina Press Association award nominations came due in 1999, I was asked at virtually the last minute to submit art work for consideration. When I won the award (and awoke after the shock) I was sure the union of illustrators was gonna put out a hit on that no-good copy editor who stumbled onyo their playing field. So I hid the award in a box and smothered it in concrete and buried it under a septic tank. But I put a webcam in the box first so I can look at it every once in a while.

I got a job at a weekly alternative paper as a graphic artist, producing covers and spot illustrations as needed. I also designed ads and layouts. The folks at the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies gave me two awards for illustration and cover design in 2002 and 2003, respectively.

I'm employed as the Publications Manager, which entails everything from layout to design to spot art to photography to writing and editing and working with the printers. Not that I do all this alone. What we produce requires the work of many dedicated folks. Below you'll find some material I've created for the gig.
