Honest to God, I hope to never again see an article about evil Wal-Mart. I worked there; I know how badly the place is run. But I also know each consumer can choose where to shop. This article, in all honesty, took a sober look at the effects of the stores on local economies. The writer and I talked about establishing a mood for the piece, and this giant coporate building towering over small businesses may not be subtle or high-concept, but it came out well. Illustrator was used here. I don't advocate obscuring the logo on every cover, but once it's established, I think one should play with the logo area to suggest mood and depth.
