I Have No Time for a Part-Time GOD
I Have No Time for a Part-Time GOD
by Hal Weaver
My GOD never sleeps.
He is open 24 hours a day
and His operators are always standing by.
My GOD always pays with cash,
never uses credit.
He never faxes or sends a flunky.
He will walk right up to you
and stuff his bill into
your shirt pocket.
I do it with colossal electric guitars
and spill out my prayers in a heavy-edged
morse code that has to cross a void
too vast for you to ever comprehend.
I never worry if He hears me.
Never have to resort to simple faith,
'cause my GOD talks back to me
in my head with a gun tongue
and burning ticker tape of good ideas.
The commands He issues are direct
and devoid of rhetoric or lies.
"Pay Attention" was the first message
I ever received from Him.
"Help the Weak" and "Avoid Pain"
are part of His Top Ten.
My personal favorites are
"No Ticket, No Wash" and
"Is That Really Necessary?"
Ah, the luxuary of divine intervention.
Amen.
