Dear AMS:

Bob's Diner was great!  I too love gravy (in moderation of course).  But I need help fast!  Visitors from Pittsburgh are coming over, and I'm out of cornstarch to make my gravy.  I noticed the baby powder is 100% cornstarch.  Would it work the same?

Dear Tim,
Cornstarch is cornstarch. Of course it will work! You may find your gravy will have a slight baby powder scent to it, but if you don't mention it to your guests they may just think they smell someone's deodorant. The off taste can be easily masked by using a heavy amount of pepper. At the table simply say, "I like a lot of pepper in my gravy. Its kind of my trademark. I think you'll like it!" There's a good chance that you'll get a few compliments, too, even if they are only being kind. On the reverse side, you'll be able to use your leftover gravy on your baby's bottom to reduce diaper rash!
