Back in the old days when there were millions of buffalo, every so often there would be a colored buffalo born. These buffalo would have different amounts of albino genes in them. Their color would be "spotted-silver-yellow-tan-gray-and so on."

This painting shows a Pawnee man coming to honor this yellow bull by praying and giving a smoke offering to this yellow buffalo. Just to see and off-colored buffalo would have been a religious experience for anyone.
