Charter

Wherein the European Chapter and it's mission are defined. The Chapter's charter is based on the one of the main organization. The European Chapter of the Gothic League of Unity, Mysticism and Enlightenment (GLUME Europe) is an independent (except for our mother-organization), non-profit organization. It has no affiliations with or dependencies upon any other organizations (same exception), whether political, religious, or economic. It was founded in February 1999 as the European Chapter of GLUME, to support especially the needs of European Goths. We are bound together by friendship, common ideals and goals.

The Vision

The goals of the League:

UNITY: To provide a means of fellowship and support for European Goths as well as Goths around the world who uphold the true Gothic Culture and do not perpetuate any myths or negative stereotypes. Also open to people who may not personally be into the Gothic Culture but who admire it, are interested in it, and are willing to support it.

MYSTICISM: To preserve and protect Gothic Culture in all its diversity and numerous aspects. This includes emphasizing Gothic history and the philosophies which underly the culture, not just aesthetics and popular culture.

ENLIGHTENMENT: To educate the public about our culture accurately. To dispel all myths and negative stereotypes. To shed light on Gothic Culture. To set good examples for all people, Gothic and not Gothic.

The Values

The values of the League are rather simple as well. We value friendship, peace and tolerance, both darkness and light, intelligence, genuineness, open-mindedness, constructive criticism, justice, human differences and human dignity, and we do our best to uphold these things within and beyond the League.

To these fundamental goals and values we each add our own personal goals and values, our individual experiences, and our individual spirits, talents and gifts. Perhaps the greatest value and virtue of this organization is that while we share many things in common, our community is richly textured and colored by individuality and freedom. That is one of the priciples that has always been part of Gothic Culture.

MEMBERSHIP: Membership is open to the whole community. All that is required is an open mind, really. An eagerness to learn and share experiences is ideal, as well. It is, of course, important that you support or have an interest in the Gothic Culture and community, no matter how in the scene you are. You must also be able and willing to uphold the above goals, giving of some of your time and energy if necessary.
