Artists Without Limits Art Production Company - a.k.a AWOL ART - was founded in 1989 by Norman Smith, Reggie Mattineau and Marc H. Holt. AWOL was formed and incorporated in Boston, Massachussetts to represent, salute and existence and experience of Black America as it related to the Metro-Boston Area communities of Roxbury, Dorchester, Jamaica Plain and Mattapan. Since then AWOL has emerged from its Boston based foundation to set up offices in two other cities, New Haven, CT and New York, NY.
AWOL's uncompromising depiction of African American existence in Boston, New Haven and New York is acheived through the diverse array of artists and art forms housed in the AWOL camp. AWOL freezes, embraces and captures the heart anad soul, pain and struggle, and most importantly, the heritage of Black Americaand then presents this incomparable legacy to an otherwise unknowing and assuming public. AWOL is at the forfront of the Black urban contemporary ranaissance spearheading the rebirth of creative expression. Every millennium a renaissance transpires, and AWOL is a cultural revolution of ART for for this millennium |
