"After watching a documentary on the life and times of Charles Mingus, I noticed that there were a lot of parrallels between his life and mine. For example, Mingus a consumate artist, had a chaotic yet ordered existence - organized mess, if you know what I mean. He got evicted from an apartment, yet remained dedicated to his art form in spite of superficial obsticles. Nietche once said something like: 'that which doesn't kill you , shall make you stronger'. I noticed that trait in Mingus and that is was drove me to create his portrait."
