I remember my first two
insulators were Hemingrays. A CD 106 (Aqua) and A CD 122 (Hemingray Blue). I can't remember how
I decided to start collecting but I do remember what really got me motivated.
I was visiting my aunt in the state of Washington in 1994 and I was bringing an
arm full of misc. Aqua/Clear insulators to the register in an antique store
when the man at the register told me that he had a purple one for sale.
I had never seen a purple insulator before not even a picture of one. Purple
is my favorite color and once I saw it I had to have it. It was a CD
154 Whitall Tatum Co. No1 in Purple. I paid him $18 dollars for it
and it is in mint condition. It is still today one of my favorite glass
insulators. After having bought my first Purple insulator, I knew there
had to have been much more out there to come. From then on up to this day
I am always looking for new insulators to add to my collection.
(my favorite insulator-H.G. CO. in royal purple) I'm currently 19 years old and I have been collecting insulators since 1994. I've gotten my insulators from Antique stores, Garage Sales, Thrift
shops, Flea Markets, Antique Fairs, and of course Insulator Shows. I have enclosed a simplified insulator list of my collection (reference-McDougalds 1995 Price Guide).
