Statement |
Susan Rosalind Vesely was born in Birmingham, England in 1953. Her mother was a nurse from Yorkshire and her father was a Jesuit priest from Moravia, (Czechoslovakia). Click Influences for a more colourful account of this background. Sue grew-up in Rushall, Nr.Walsall, West Midlands. She intended to be an artist from a very early age. She studied Fine Art at Margaret Street School of Art in Birmingham and passed her degree in Fine Art with Honours in 1977. Sue was one of two students from Birmingham who were accepted that year by the Royal College of Art in London. This was the first time in years that anyone from Margaret Street School of Art had been accepted, and it was the start of considerable success for Birmingham students in the years that followed. She graduated from the RCA in Painting in 1981.
Sue was short-listed for the position of Artist in Residence at the
National Gallery in 1984,and for the position of Artist in Residence at
Cambridge University. Susan now lives in the East Midlands, England. She
occasionally runs painting/drawing workshops and classes and has done some
tuition at the Heart of England University, but most of her time is spent
painting in her studio. Sue has two teenage sons. |
