I had only recently posted "After the Fall of Justice" to Wolfe's Lodge in mid-June, 1998, when I saw the article on another Web site -- with a small but ugly alteration. Two words had been changed, apparently to make my work more palatable to racists. (My reference to "a poor, black man" suffering injustice was changed to "a poor White Southerner," complete with Egregiously Ignorant Capitalization.) The Web site owners were totally innocent, and rushed both to restore the essay and to help me trace the origin of the tampering. (Thanks to honorable people!) However, tampered copies are still circulating. If anyone sees one, I'd like to know about it, please, so I can get it corrected. Who dunnit? The earliest known tampered copy of the essay traces to "Resistance" Resist88@ix.netcom.com -- the only person in the whole sordid, altered-article e-mail trail who ignored my pleas for help. Resist88@ix.netcom.com turns out to be a creature named Harold Covington, head of the National Socialist White People's Party, self-proclaimed heir to George Lincoln Rockwell, and probable federal informant. About the only positive thing my research revealed is that Mr. Covington is so busily engaged in puerile name-calling wars on newsgroups for Nazis, Neo-Nazis, Proto-Nazis, Crypto-Nazis, Pseudo-Nazis and Left-Handed/Kill-All-the-Right-Handed-Nazis that he doesn't actually have time to do any of the horrible things he advocates. Hatewatch calls him the "laughingstock" of the white supremacist movement. Mr. Covington has the motive and the (lack of) character to perform racist vandalism on a copyrighted article. If he's not the tamperer, he's shielding the one who is. In any case, Mr. Covington is clearly not a man to let little details like ethics, property rights or human decency stand in the way of his Higher Goals. He has been placed on notice that if he so much as reprints or circulates any article of mine -- even in an untampered state -- he'll be in violation of my copyright and I'll let my lawyer strip his worthless hide from his worthless body and use it for a dartboard.
