Just came back from the Primedia Comic convention, this being my first convention, I really didn't know what to expect. I had a bad feeling about going first when the convention people didn't cash the cheque I wrote them for my table a few months ago (postdated cheque). After e-mailing them, I was told to pay cash because the cheque would take too long to process. So I did.
I was at the Saturday when the big celebrites came down for the panels. The venders were set up in hotel's lobby, as the main dealers had there own room. Not a lot of self pulished comic book artists were there, I felt bad for this one group of people who had there table in a bad spot, don't think anyone purchased any books off them. After an hour so, they just took off. But luckily for me, I had a good spot. I shared a table with Janet Hetherington, a very nice person she is. We traded books, talked a lot. She was also in a few panels at the convention. As time rolled by, a few of the celebrities walked by.. embrassed to say, I didn't recognized any of them. There was also a masquerade ball, many people were dressed up as sci-fi/comic book characters. Took pictures of them with my disposalable camera (it was an outdoor one and I was in doors.. I hope they come out good). I took two pictures of two guys dressed up as storm troopers (they did the storm trooper voices too with their costume which I thought was cool). Took a pic of what looked like an amazon from Xena, also a Klingon ( my sis is a big star trek fan , as I am more of a star wars), and I also snapped a pic of two people dressed up like Steel and Marvel Girl. If these pics turn out good, they will deffently go up on my web page :)
As they day went on, my 1/2 issues seemed to be the best buy of the day after all 25c an issue, you can't go wrong huh? I talked with many other people about the comic field and the world of Manga videos. We all came to agreement that Battle Arena Toshindon was indeed an awful movie. As we were closing up, it was time for the autograph session with the celebrities, being that I didn't get a program book, I used my Marky Comics poster for them to autograph. I got my sister a glossy 8 x 10 personalized autograph photo Walter Koenig. Ty Templeton signed my poster along with a head sketch of Harlequin from the Batman animated series, Leornard Kirk of Supergirl comics fame signed my poster too with a head sketch of Supergirl. Gabriel Morrissette signed it too with a character head sketch of his own too. My poster looked so cool with the autographs on it, I even added my own with a LexMorgan from Lex and Rex head sketch on it as well. On the Sunday, the day was very slow for most of the five hours. Janet Hetherington's husband Ronn Sutton came down and showed off his work on the Elvira Comic and game me a preview look at Elvira #11. Very impressive...gave him a few comics of my own for him to read, Ronn also signed my poster with an Elvira head sketch too, Janet did as well with her Eternal romance character Destiny head sketch along with her autograph wishing me the best in the future. Snap a pic of the happy couple with my camera. All in all the convention was good with a few low points, the way the tables were set up look awful(felt sorry for the three who left early), the consession food wasn't all the best. Also, I should have brought a better eraser, my drawings were turning out like crap and I kept losing my mini eraser. :(
The highlights of the convention for me were the autograph signings, the selling off my books, and the females dressed in the sexy costumes for the masquerade ball. Anyways, when I do get the pics and if they are developed well, I will post them up and tell you about them.
Well, now that I am home, its back to work on Jagger: Masquerade #2. Till then..
