In the past year or so, McCue and Equinox have greatly neglected the film portion of the site, as they have been spending much of their time developing their own gelatin dreams. Now, as the summer begins and they begin to reinvest themself in the site, on this, the start of our fifth year here at NoxNet, expect there to be far more consistent turn-over in the "current release" section.
This brings us to our current dilemma... What in current release do McCue and Equinox think good? Very little, my friends. Very little. They have not have the opportunity to see some of the films they're certain will blow them away... documentaries and such... and there'll probably be a good gay pic at the Quad in a week or so... For now, the only film that they have enjoyed is X2. | ![]() |
![]() | While McCue and Equinox have yet to hear a human being refer to the film as X2: X-Men United, they see the opportunity to do so throughout this piece as comic as consistently referring to one of their faves of last year as Sprit: Stallion of the Cimmaron -- and never anyhting more brief.
As many of you know, while Sebastian Equinox was busy investing himself in glam-rock music and starting up his first band, Jizz Duvet, McCue was a wily young teenager who spent his Friday and Saturday afternoons biking up to Mamaroneck Avenue to grab the lastest comics. While he was a Batman obsessive, this was the time when X-Force was just coming out, Cable had just arrived, Bishop... Gambit was really taking off... and of course, the world was given the wondrous "X-Tinction Agenda." Obviously, McCue was not going to ignore that, nor was he going to ignore the gads of training cards and ToyBiz style action figures... and thus, he too was an X-Fan. |
When the first film came out, it blew him away. He brought his friend (of then one year) Seastian Equinox to catch a showing down at the good ol' AMC on 42nd St. one afternoon when he miscalculated the time he was supposed to meet some friends and had about three hours to kill. Well, they loved it... and they didn't get to meet those friends... choosing instead to hang in the theatre and watch X-Men just one more time.
When the second film was released, you can bet McCue was there on line, at the Ziegfeld, amongst the nerds, waiting for what he was sure would be a great film. Lo and Behold, it was. Better than the first... very Superman II or Empire Strikes Back... in fact, much of the shooting style under Alpine Lake (or whatever it was called) is a total homage to Empire ... it seems.
Bryan Singer is making no bones about using X2: X-Men United as a gay rights film. The first danced around the issue a bit, but X2: X-Men United is stepping right through the heart of the matter. Quite nice. Quite nice indeed.
Bryan Singer... We here at NoxNet Salute you. You, my friend, are a class act.
Film is the most important nonhuman thing in the world to all members of the Equinox Ltd. staff. Since the founding of the corporation, this has been one of the few areas where Sebastian and McCue have seen eye to eye. This page is the new home for the incredible film criticism of McCue as well as a nook where his passion for the medium (as sanctioned by Mr. Equinox) can be unleashed.
The film page will be broken into the following:
