THE EQUIPMENT

This photograph shows the "Furnace Assembly". The burner is actually a common Weeded Burner with a three foot "Wand" handle. You can find these at any good Propane Supplier. The Burner is clamped to a homemade stand. In the background, the furnace walls and lid, is the modified 55 gallon drum that we use as a "RAKU" kiln for our pottery production. It also makes a wonderful furnace for melting down aluminum cans. In the bottom right corner is a palette of fire brick, racked on a simple metal frame, the furnace base.
The wheels were added to make it easier to move the fire brick around. This "Mobil Rack" also cuts down on the wear and tear of the fire brick, which tends to be soft and brittle.
