Blocks made by Dawn Smith

Christmas Block

for Phyllis Price

This was my first swap block. Phyllis asked me to make something that represented my personality using these colors. I made the cedar tree following Judith Montano's evergreen tree instructions. To me Christmas trees are cedar trees.

Ocean Block

for Dawn Askwith

This was my first ocean project. I used several threads and trims from the first CrazyQuilt Embellishment Exchange. This taste of working in the ocean theme led to the ocean side of the tea cozy that I made for my mom, the first CrazyQuilt Ocean Swap and who knows what next...

Block Made for Carolyn McCray

I made this one when I first started using curved piecing. I make the butterfly with four lazy daisy stitches which I couch down. The body is made with chain stitches from rayon sewing machine thread and straight stitch for the antennae.

Block Made for Betty Pilsbury

This is the first block that I used Nancy Eha's Crazy Beading on.

Block Made for Libby Magnello

I like to embroider a sun on some of my blocks as a symbol of my name.

Block Made for Kathi Larson

I used fly stitches for the writing on this block. For the D I tacked them down in a curve. My mom made the crocheted flower. The blue flower is boullion stitch in rayon floss. The dark green thread laced on the herringbone stitch is unravelled Bunka thread.
