Diary of a Pazonova
Week 6: 5th-11th April 1999
desde la libertad

K sent another beautiful letter this week, saying how she loves me because I love her from a position of freedom, not possession. I hope it's true, although we had a frustratingly brief call tonight, which put me on the spot as far as my plans to go to Mexico. I think I'd sooner die than not go to see her in May, but at the moment, funds are a little low whilst I'm waiting to be paid for my teaching, and I need to organise myself a little better. I know that May's not too far off, and I need to start saving as much as I can right now. Sometimes the pressure I'm putting on myself feels impossible to bear, but I know K's worth it. I'll rest later.

Teaching this week was quite hard, and in some ways I'm glad I'll have a rest from it for a while. My morning student was fairly good, but a little unspecific in what he wanted. We had four morning lessons of three hours each, and then he cancelled the Friday lesson because of his work, so who knows how committed he was? The afternoon lessons were OK, except that the class sizes kept changing, and some days I was teaching completely different students to the day before, but that's part of the challenge, I guess. I also discovered that travel would not be paid, and since I'd been travelling fairly long distance, that made quite a dent in my finances. Washing dishes only covers the rent really, so I'll be trying to get some more work pretty damned quick.

I had a call the other day from an old friend. Obi Wan called me on Monday, after I'd got back from teaching, and told me he was in town, on the end of a week long drinking session away from university. I met up with him later, and we had a few beers, chatted about life in Sheffield, where we both studied, albeit at different universities. I ought to really go up and see him at some point and surprise the folks who are still left up there. I also discovered (via Jack) that two of my other friends who're living up there have finally got married. I really am out of touch with events when someone on the other side of the world knows better than me what's happening in my own country!
