Welcome to The Riverworld in Yahoo Chat. Riverworld Chat Rooms are based on the works of Phillip Jose Farmer known as The Riverworld Series. The series of novels explores the concept of an afterlife in which nearly all of the human beings who ever lived are resurrected along the banks of a mighty river which snakes its way across the surface of an alien world. Death itself is impermanent as any who die are resurrected again each morning on the Riverworld. In this world, people from different times and places are mixed together in a grand cosmic experiment. Famous and not so famous persons from history interact with one another in this world as they struggle with the great questions of human existence.
Riverworld Chat Rooms are intended to provide scenarios in which participants can interact while role playing the characters of certain figures from human history. You are invited to participate fully. If you are new and not ready to participate then you are considered a guest and you are welcome to observe and learn. If you would like to participate, all you need to do is follow the basic guidelines which are in place to facilitate this unique chat environment. As with any chat room, troublemakers and abusive participants will be ignored. Those who know their historical character and are prepared to role play are most welcome.
It is not necessary to read the entire Riverworld Series to participate, in fact, you can participate without having read any of the series, as long as you understand the basic concepts. It is recommended that you read at least the first book of the series, "To Your Scattered Bodies Go", in which most of the core concepts are developed. Knowledge of the series will help you fit in and be comfortable with role playing your character. The series of five novels is one of the most fascinating, thought-provoking, and well written in all of American science fiction, and is well worth reading over and over again. The books are widely available at any public library and may be purchased at almost any bookstore which sells new or used paperbacks. "To Your Scattered Bodies Go" is a Hugo Award winning novel.
