Rituals:
Ritual has alot to do with Wiccan religion. You can get as ornate and as complicated, or as simple and plain, with them as you want. I usually make my own rituals. Pay attention to the colors of your candles and clothes, make or buy yourself a robe, or you may want to do rituals sky-clad (butt-naked). Color is important, it symbolizes what you want in the ritual. For instance, if you are wanting to do a ritual for love, then you might want a pink candle.
Go to color correspondences for spells to learn what colors should go with what.
Tools for Ritual use:
Help! What if I don't have these things!
Improvise my dears! certain brass candle holders make great bells, pocket knives make athames and bollines. What about herbs and oils? Surely you have those little containers in your kitchen, you know, ground nutmeg, cinnamon, sage? if you have to you can use these. oils can be made by obtaining the herb (growing it yourself, finding it, mail order, or store bought), putting it into a glass bottle and covering it with olive oil, putting it into a warm place for three days, straining it and putting in more herbs until the oil smells like it. What if the spell calls for a certain herb that you can't get? find another herb with the same properties, it's that simple. let's say that a spell you read wants you to use jasmine, but you don't have any, try rose or violet--both are love herbs as is the jasmine.
I prefer to make my own rituals, instead of copying others. Afterall, what I make for me will probably be best for me. So...here are the:
Nine basic components for a ritual
- purification of Self
- purification of space
- creating sacred space
- invocation
- ritual observance ( on Sabbats and Esbats)
- energy raising (during magic)
- earthing the power
- thanking the Goddess and the God
- Breaking the circle
Know what you want to do when you are doing the ritual. Prepare before hand. In Doing a love spell, perhaps you would want: rose quartz stone, violets, rose petals (or any other herb corresponding with love. For the full herbal
list go to the correspondences page), probably a pink candle,& Jasmine incense.
Set these things up on your alter, along with your wiccan tools. Things that are of the goddess (love, caring) will go on the left, and things of the God (strength, lust), will go on the right. In the middle will go things that are associated with both.
Suggested alter layout:
Left:
Goddess symbol or candle, Bowl of water, cup, wand, Bell
Right:
God symbol or candle, bowl of salt, incense, knife, Bolline
Middle:
Censer, candle (of correct color for spell or Sabbat/Esbat), pentacle, cauldron and/or spell materials.
Charge the stones you've chosen with your energy, set them on the pentacle, light the incense, and meditate until you are calm, and ready. When you are ready, burn the herbs you have chosen, or "cook" them together in the cauldron. (when I say "cook", I mean heat up some water, and then steep the herbs in them). After the herbs have cooked, spread the water with their properties onto your body, concentraiting on the upper half (or you may even want to take a bath in them prior to the ritual, or drink it as a tea).
Ask the Goddess and the God for help, and if possible, make up a rhyme to go with your spell. As you repeat your rhyme, or chant, let the energy in your
sphere (circle you casted earlier) build and swirl around you, enter into you. Let it build and build towards your purpose, and then let it go. Send it out far into the world. Release.
Break the circle (I simply thank the Goddess and the God, thank the elements, and absorb the sphere I created back into my left hand).
sometimes you will hear of wicca grouped into "paganism" which it is clearly a part of.
The Pagainistic parts of these rituals are simple. Many wiccans incorparate dancing into the rituals, to build energy, and dance whilst chanting, singing, or just saying their rhyme (usually a rhyme will end with "So mote it be" to tell the spirits that this is your will). The rhyme is repeated faster and faster, and the energy is built up, until the release (which some people symbolize by falling to the ground, or just stopping, and feeling the energy flow out of them). While you are doing this, visualize whatever you did the spell on, happening. If you wanted your boyfriend to be nice to you again, you could see him bringing you flowers, and smiling at you.
Notice
(Love spells are considered "grey magick", that is, they border on the white and black level. By doing a love spell specifically aimed at making somone fall in love with you, you could not only be doing them harm, but yourself as well [what if the spell works, and you find you hate this person, but they are hopelessly in love with you?]. It is best to stay away from doing them for a specific person. On the other hand, if you did a spell to find a love it can only do you good.)
There are eight major Sabbats that are celebrated. Sabbats and Esbats are ideal times for spell casting because the earth's energy is at it's highest then. Also moon correspondences help.
If you are a wiccan, you will want to celebrate all of the esbats and sabbats. To understand why, and see what to do go to Sabbats and Esbats.
I've probably confused the lot of you. If you are one of these confused individuals, and would like to ask me a question, I'll answer to the best of my ability. Just e-mail me.
