CHERRY FALLS
Cherry Falls is a slasher film with a twist. Traditional slasher film killers often went after teenagers
that have sex. The twist in this film is that the killer is after teenagers that are still virgins. Now, I
usually hate slasher films; as a horror fan, I view them as the lowest of all the sub-categories within
the genre. But this is not why I didn't like this film. I've been known to like this type of film from time
to time. I think for fans of these type of films, Cherry Falls will be a nice addition to the slasher film
family. It does start off really well and through out its length there's much that is successful. What the
film does to lose my interest is develop a split-personality; it starts off serious then at about the halfway
point it pops in and out of an out-of-place satirical tone. Also, the wonderfully controversial twist isn't
put to its full potential. Actually, the satirical tone could be viewed as the film makers wimping out on this
subject. To its credit, the film does come close here and there. My favorite of these scenes shows a brawl
among parents in the high school gym.
