RAVENOUS
The first time I saw Antonia Bird's Ravenous I didn't know what to make of it. I couldn't come up words to express my feelings; I wasn't even sure if I liked it. But what I was sure of in regards to this horror/western hybrib was that I've never seen anything much like it before. Since that's a good thing I decided to think about what I did like about it. It's suspense level is rather high: I never could predict the way the story was going. The characters were likable and quirky, to say the least; and the actors who portrayed them were wonderful and seemed to be having fun. I also loved the soundtrack by Damon Albarn and Michael Nyman so much I ran out and bought it before the film was out of theatres(which sadly was only two weeks) But in that time I saw the film four times. Yes indeed, a film that possessed all of the above traits couldn't be anything but a film I adored. And now there's a wonderful DVD package that includes not just one, but three commentary tracks! Also included are deleted scenes (with their own commentary track), a photo gallery, costume and set designs and the mandatory widescreen transfer (aka letterbox) so we all can take in Anthony B. Richmond's beautiful photography.
