In Episode 21, Joe awakes in the cabin to find his bed empty. Stuart has left a note explaining that their affair was a mistake and all her fault. Back at the Kincaids', Stuart returns to find Olivia worriedly waiting for Joe. Once Olivia is assured of Joe's safety, she tells Victoria, who is waiting with her, that she is pregnant. Some time later, Stuart shows up at Belleterre where Nick is working with the horses to ask for her old job back. Grace joins them, invites Stuart to the play, and Nick speculates that Grace is sweet on him after she returns to the house. Back at the Kincaids' Joe returns and is overjoyed to discover that Olivia is pregnant. He tried to tell her of his affair, but never got it out. At Belleterre, the playwrights cast some of the roles for the play. Libbie bursts in and demands to be Elizabeth Bennet before leaving for a romantic getaway with her husband. To end, in London, Richard, John Henry's brother, decides to travel with his three grown children to surprise his family in Liberty Creek.

In Episode 22, Will and Marietta finaly move into their new home, surprised by all of their family and a housewarming party. Later, at a family lunch, Christopher teases Joe about spending the night with Stuart, whom he thinks is homosexual. Joe is very defensive, causing both Nick and Tess to be suspicious. Nick threatens to beat Joe for stepping out on his sister, but Tess warns him to find out the truth first. As Grace begins to leave, Nick stops her and asks her to take Sherman out for a good run. It makes Grace very happy that he trusts her so much and she promises to bring back some sort of dinner for him and Tess. Later that day, John Henry goes to visit the Carrols and discovers that Red has impregnated Princess. Lazarus demands that John Henry take the responsibility. J-H agrees, then stays to help Laz and Danielle with the fountain, which they eventually get working. Later, in a field near Belleterre, Joe comes upon Stuart as she is training a young horse. Joe asks if she might be pregnant. She replies no, though she has realized that there is still a chance she might be. Later still, Grace is riding down a long rode looking very much like a boy. She comes across the stagecoach which is carrying her Uncle Charles and his family, plus the elder Mr. and Mrs. Elliot. Charles, not recognizing her, offers to pay her to lead him to Belleterre. She charges him an outrageous price, but he doesn't know it. She teases him along the way, does a little showing off, and finally reveals that she is his niece.

In Episode 23, Grace and Charles arrive at Belleterre and plan to surprise the family. They leave the horses in the stable and manage to trick Nick. Nick discovers Stuart crying in a corner. She admits the affair she had with Joe, and he promises not to tell anyone before inviting her to stay with him and Tess in their spare room. He suggests that she take a horse to Kentucky where he has a buyer, and see a doctor while she is there. In the house, Grace surprises her family with Uncle Charles one-by-one, her father last. Late that night, Nick and Tess return to their own home from supper. They discuss each of Nick's cousins before Nick finally remembers to tell Tess that Stuart will be staying with them for a while. He tells her the story, as Stuart instructed him to, and she is sympathetic.

In Episode 24, Phil Elliot surprises Philip and Lydia at Philip's house. Lydia and her father reconcile, and Christopher is officially welcomed into the Elliot family. At Tess and Nick's house, Stuart wakes up later than usual. She and Tess have a discussion and Stuart tells her friend the whole truth about her past. Tess suggests that Stuart pose as a woman when in Kentucky and take advantage of the hospitality of the people to whom she will be selling the horse. Stuart reluctantly agrees. At Belleterre. Charles confronts Miss Mason upstairs. They discuss family remaining in England and it is eventually put forth that Miss Mason may have more than a passing interest in one of Charles' nephews. That evening, John Henry and Charles recline in J-H's office with drinks and cigars. They discuss family, most especially Lydia's announcement that she was expecting. Red, who had been sleeping, suddenly jumps up and asks out. John Henry, suspicious of his strange behavior, follows the dog to the front door where he finds Lazarus and Danielle have just arrived with Princess, who is about to have the puppies. Princess is brought into John Henry's office and set before the fire.

In Episode 25, Charles discusses English politics with Lazarus as Lazarus nervously waits for the birth of the puppies. Grace soon calls them in and introduces Lazarus to the puppies. (An offer is made for the reader to name the puppies, but no formal suggestions were made. The offer is still open.) Lazarus announces that he will be sleeping in that room with Princess for a few days, but allows John Henry to prepare a room for his wife, as it is too late for her to return home. Some days later, Nick and Tess see Stuart off in town. They discuss the plan. Stuart will eventually be posing as Tess. Later that day, at Belleterre, Lazarus has made friends with Connie (Charles' youngest daughter), who is intrigued by the puppies. Lazarus tells her the ghastly story of how Princess came to live with him. Connie leaves after her father arrives, and Laz and Charles discuss Charles' sixtieth birthday. That night, Richard and family arrive in Boise (and pass Stuart, asking about her fine horse and where she got it) and discuss their travel arrangements to Liberty Creek.

In Episode 26, Lazarus heads for home, leaving the puppies and Princess in John Henry's office. John Henry teases him about the fountain, which froze. Later, when Lazarus is in town, he has a run in with Richard and his children. Belinda is rude, so he is equally rude in return. She is exceedingly insulted. Further away, Stuart sets out to dine in the train. She is dressed as a woman, and sits with an older woman who is kind to her. Back at Belleterre, Marietta and Tess stand to be fitted for their play costumes. At twilight, the entire family gathers in a large room in various groups. Grace leaves retrieve the scripts from upstairs. While there, she witnesses the stage pulling up. She runs down stairs and stays long enough to see the people coming out of the stage, then runs to tell her father and Uncle Charles. John Henry leaves to meet them, while Charles tells the rest of the family of the new arrivals. John Henry and Richard share a less-than-pleasant reunion.

In Episode 27, Julia, Grace, and Louisa go to visit Sally the next morning. Sally had disappeared the night before. Sally fakes sick. The girls tell Sally about the reunion, especially of their displeasure with Belinda. Sally instructs Grace to lead the rehearsal. Later, in John Henry's office, Lazarus enters to find Connie holding one of the puppies and Red visiting his beloved. Lazarus suggests that Connie spend a day in the school in town with Mrs. Carrol. Connie likes the idea. In the library, some of the family sits to watch a play rehearsal, Lazarus is there also. He "apologizes" to Belinda. Freddie leaves the room and goes up to see Sally. They catch up, and Sally explains to Freddie why she disappeared. She tells him of their baby boy who only lived a few days. An important scene, you should read it yourself. Later, as Lazarus leaves, Connie runs outside to tell him she has been given permission to visit the school. John Henry invites Lazarus and Danielle to Thanksgiving dinner. Later, Grace and Carey are out riding (astride!) and meet Stuart, who has returned from a successful business trip. She sold the horse for a very good price. When Stuart makes it to Tess and Nick's house, she tells them she is not pregnant.

In Episode 28, we are introduced to the conditions of the three pregnant ladies. Lydia is happy and healthy in the morning. Christopher discovers her singing to their baby nephew. Joe discovers Olivia feeling just terrible as she retches into the toilet. Stuart wakes up and vomits, too. Tess hears her through the wall and suspects something. When Nick wakes up, she tells him he heard nothing. Later, at Belleterre, Freddie and Sally talk alone in the library. Richard enters, but does not know Sally (he should). Belinda soon enters and does recognize Sally, making sure Sally knows it. Charles then enters and he and Richard get into an argument. Sally ends up leaving the room in tears, but Richard does not notice. Freddie joins in the argument, eventually taking Charles' side over his father's. Later, Lazarus arrives with Danielle. Lazarus goes to find John Henry, but stops when he hears Belinda and Sally talking in a room. He hears Belinda say cruel things to Sally. Sally leaves the room and Lazarus enters. Lazarus threatens Belinda, and Sally hears all from outside. That evening, family and friends gather for Thanksgiving. Olivia runs out to vomit, but only Nick, Tess, and Joe see Stuart do the same. When they return, the family sits down and they all give thanks. Very long and corny. Late that night, Freddie innocently visits Sally in her room. They both admit that they still love each other.

In Episode 29, it is John Henry's 50th birthday. Julia, Grace, and Louisa visit him in his office, vacant of Princess and the puppies. They discuss Connie's going to the school that day, and Julia tells John Henry of the teasing she received form the other children when she did the same some years before. The three girls continue to the library. They enter and interrupt a kiss shared by Sally and Freddie. Grace does the majority of the teasing, and Freddie does nothing to discourage their assumptions. Grace and the girls promise not to say anything for at least a day. A short time later, Christopher enters his bedroom with breakfast for Lydia. They discuss the baby. Lydia thinks it's a boy, Christopher thinks and wants a girl. At Tess and Nick's house, Nick discovers Stuart vomitting behind the barn. He discusses it with Tess, and they then confront Stuart, who continues to deny that she is pregnant. Later, at Joe and Olivia's house, Olivia returns after a ride with Joey. Joe sends Joey upstairs, then confronts Olivia, angry that she has endangered herself, the baby, and Joey. Olivia swoons, and Joe carries her upstairs, ordering her to stay in bed. She convinces him to allow her to go to John Henry's party in the evening. Later, Charles walks in just after play rehearsal and compliments Louisa on some drawing of family members she has spread on the table. They leave, leaving Sally and Freddie alone. They discuss something secretive before being joined by Belinda. Belinda again tries to blackmail Sally, but Sally stands her ground. At John Henry's party that evening, it is discovered that Connie thoroughly enjoyed herself at school. Olivia is chastized by her sisters. Later, as Lazarus and Danielle leave, Freddie pulls Laz aside and asks if he will marry him and Sally that night. Lazarus agrees, and says he will wait with the buggy on the lane just beyond the trees. Freddie, Sally, and Carey (as a witness) will join them directly.

In Episode 30, a short time later, Belinda goes to visit Freddie, but finds his bedroom empty. She then goes to Sally's room and finds a note explaining all. She angrily goes to her father's room and shows him. They are joined by Charles, who has just found Carey missing. Charles is informed of the situation. He orders Richard and Belinda not to let Freddie and Sally tell the family in their own time. The next day, in Boise, Maggie (Charles' oldest daughter), her husband, and their baby board a stage with Georgie, Gabe, and Steven. The two families get to know each other. Later that day, much of the family is gathered together in the drawing room. Freddie almost makes his announcement, but stops just before when he sees his cousin enter the room. Tess and Louisa are informed of the other arrivals, and leave to meet them in the library. That evening, the family gathers at suppers. They discuss living arrangements, and Freddie makes his announcement at that time. The family is struck speechless.
