The Sayeedi Brothers
DESERT STORMS...
This page is probably the only one of it's kind on the net... Since graduating from Manaret Al-Riyadh School (Minaret Al-Riyadh or Manarat Al-Riyadh) English Section for Boys, me and my classmates have moved on to different parts of the world like the US, UK, Canada, Pakistan, and so on. So this page serves as a e-memoir of those days. Don't forget to have a look at Rizzo's forward.
Those years spent in Riyadh opened me up to a completely different society, new sights, and great experiences that I would not have been able to have enjoyed if I had stayed in Canada. Those years weren't easy, but these guys that I call my brothers made all of it worthwhile. It also help a little when we moved to Al-Wadi with its satellite dishes. I was forced to watch MTV Asia and the infamous Star TV Network. For those few of us who worked on the "Manaret Boys" tapes, we have some good audio memories of that era.
"AL-WADI COMPOUND, CAN I HELP YOU?"
THE MANARET CIRCUS
I went to this small English school called Manaret Al-Riyadh. It's probably the most ridiculous school in the galaxy! It was an all-boys school, so needless to say we were quite deprived. I spent a two-year sentence there, and boy were those years weird! If I was to explain the stuff that went on there, you probably wouldn't believe me!
Our High School graduation was held at the Riyadh Hyatt-Regency Hotel. Very classy indeed!
Here's a picture of Alex (the only non-Muslim in our class), me, Faisal in the front row and Mudassir, Sajed, and Mohammed Amin-Malki in one behind us watching the grad ceremonies.
Here's a great picture of the Manaret graduating class of '94. From left to right: Imran Anwar Beg (a.k.a. Native), Sajed Alkarim Chowdhury (a.k.a. Soggy), Omer Waheed Qureshi (a.k.a. Zooki), Mohammed Haroon Jawadi, Farid Ismail, Faisal Maju, Khalid Mahmood Hassan (a.k.a. Fundamental Concept), Omar Tajammal Mirza, Mohammed Ali Wasif (a.k.a. Mali), Mohammed Mohammed Qasim Al-Qureshi (a.k.a. Q), Syed Tahir Zafar Jafri, Mohammed Amin-Malki (a.k.a. Monkey), Wael Farouk El-Amin, Sattam Shamveel Ahmed (in lots of trouble), me (a.k.a. Liquid Paper Boy), and Nizamuddin Sayeed (a.k.a. Bug). In the front there's Muddassir Hassan (a.k.a. Mud), Fawad Zakai, and Alex Mark Nicolau. No, that's not my arm around Sattam, it's Monkey's!
Here's a picture of our favourite teacher Mr. Habib. He taught us the "RHIGHT" and the "GHOOD", or Islamic Education. One time Faisal rubbed his belly. Mr. Habib also likes "DA SPIHCY CHACKEN"!
RIYADH THESE DAYS...
Me and my friends always poke fun at the fact that I don't drink alcohol. So when I drink a coke or ginger ale I always call it "Muslim Beer". So when I went back to Riyadh, we went and got some Muslim Beer, Moussy brand! My mom wasn't too impressed! Oh, and just to clear up any misconceptions, Moussy and Barbican are both non-alcoholic.
The three of us doing Moussy Shots!
Here I'm fancying a Moussy Dark by the pool in Al-Wadi.
Oh yeah, Moussy tastes disgusting!!! How can y'all drink that crap?
TEJAS AND THE CRAZY TEJANOS!
There are more people that I met in Riyadh but I don't have pictures of them. If you have pics that you'd like to see on this page then e-mail them to me at alwadi.geo@yahoo.com
