ABOUT MY POTS...
I recycle anything I can from black one quart shampoo bottles (great for herbs, they hang outdide my door on the shutters) to plastic 1 gallon milk jugs (great for strawberries) 2 gallon water jugs to 5 gallon food service containers.
I like to paint at night when it's not so hot here. I use old table lamps I picked up at thrift stores and hung to illuminate the area.
I started painting pots several years ago. It started when I ran out of pots and started using cut down one gallon milk jugs for strawberries. I painted all kinds of berries on them and wrote whimsical sayings and hung them outside my door on shutters. Then, a neighbor asked me to plant sit a few years ago in exchange for a bunch of extra landscaping pots he had. They were those plain generic black variety from 6"-3' across. They were basically ugly and BORING! No problem, at the end of the day as I sat in the garden I started painting them one by one. Using my trusty ole artist acrylics and other mediums I had lying around, I transformed them into individual expressions of my mood at the time. The style I invented is hard to explain. My technique varies with my mood, sometimes I undercoat the pot in a light color paint, then paint designs and sayings in various bright colors. My signature is hearts and chile peppers or Americana stars and stripes (red, silver and blue) on those pots with the ridges. Some are whimsical, some are celestial, some are abstract. Some have chile pepper or flower motifs...
I rub them with a secret silver or gold glaze that sparkles in the sun and dances in the moonlight.
Ironically, it turns out to be beneficial besides aesthetically appealing. According to Dave Dewitt in The Pepper Garden,p. 62:
"There is a tendency for pots in full sun to absorb solar radiation and heat up the roots too much. If the pots are quite large, painted white or the color of alluminum to reflect solar energy, and are well mulched, many varieties will thrive in full sun."

OTHER JUNQUE...
I enjoy making junque out of junk! It's raising recycling to a new level. I also collect and paint old office chairs I find in the trash, they make great plant stands. One is painted faux leopard spots and pink and silver. I also painted some "leopard" pots to match (gallon milk jugs actually).See my pix
I make wreaths and ristras out of hibiscus flowers and cayennes and banana leaves and hang them on the doors and shutters
The Bleach People or, "Gawking Tourists" are containers that I made from gallon bleach jugs.(pix soon) I paint the other half and make hanging pots.
