The Psychic Orphanage

This page exists because in the "psychic" orphanage, there are no adoptive parents, we just have to live with the loss. Our missing or absent parent is alive, but they're not in our lives. How can that happen? Ask any survivor of child abuse. The betrayal is absolute and the loss is for life. Many times, because we choose to sever our ties to an abusive parent, it is thought that we have chosen this loss. This couldn't be further from the truth.

When the missing or lost parent is still alive, there are no adoptive parents. We just have to live with the loss...but we don't have to do that alone! In fact, trying to do it alone is about the hardest thing an abuse survivor can do. In my own journey of healing, the most powerful aid I found was the support of others who had similar experiences. Finding a support group or a therapy group is a powerful affirmation of yourself.

If you have just begun your journey of healing, you may feel overwhelmed by how much pain you have been carrying inside you. I once thought that if I dared to feel my pain, it would kill me. If you take nothing else from this site, take the knowledge that your own pain cannot kill you, but trying not to feel it can. Sometimes, it seems like the recovery work will never be over with, and you will never be free to live your own life on your own terms, not limited by what the abuse did to your mind, your body and your soul. Maybe I'm a slow healer, but about five years into my recovery, I woke up one day and discovered that I was no longer captive within the cage of the abuse. I was free. I had become more than the abuse ever would have let me become. It was the happiest day of my life. I hope you will experience that day soon.

What can you find in the Psychic Orphanage?
Find strength in the knowledge that you are not alone, comfort in the knowledge that there is a safe place. And if you survived childhood sexual abuse, celebrate that.

Here is a safe place to share your sorrow, and if you survived sexual abuse as a child, you can request free literature from Survivors of Incest Anonymous, and referral to an SIA support group near you.

You are now free to move out of your prison and live your life on your own terms.
