Janx sat back and relaxed. The golden sun beat down on him. He sighed
pleasurably. His eyelids were drooping under the wieght of the heatm
and he was about to fall asleep when someone violently shook him.
"Come on Janx! Let's go to the river!"
"Not now June. Later!"
"But you promised!" she whined. Janx was a boy of his word, so he rose
dutifully.
"But we have to be back before dark, or mom will have a cow." He wanted
to spend as little time with his sister as possiable.
They wound their way from the meadow near their summer home, though
the woods, and past the black berry bushes. They climbed over a pile
of fallen rocks and onto the muddy shores.
Janx wasn't so regretful about coming. The crystal clear water was onlyu
about seven feet deep and moved swiftly across the bottom stones. His
sister had already begun to paddle and splash near the bank. He wanted
to mantain his older brotherliness, but the cool waters temptation was
just to much. Janx threw off his shirt and began to wade though the
water torwards June.
They began to play water tag and practiced stunts mosts of the afternoon
As the sun sunk to about an inch from the horizen, they decieded it was
time to go. Janx slipped his shirt on and waited for June to button
her tunic over her suit. When she finished, she waddled over to a warm
slate of rock and streched out, bathing in the evening sun.
"June, what are you doing?" he asked, annoyed. "We're going to be late1"
"I gotta dry you know." Settling herself in a comfortable postion, she
relaxed. Janx sighed impatiently and picked up a red skipping stone.
"Fine. I'll wait, you slug." Throwing the stone, he turned to June.
"How many skips?" But June didn't answer. A look of terror was plastered
on her face. "June? June?! June!"Janx kneeled down and waved in his
sisters face.
"Janx, it came back."
To be contuined...
