Mặt Trời Mọc Trên Đỉnh Haleakala

Trong cái rét lạnh căm trên đỉnh núi
Haleakala hùng vĩ tuyệt vời (1)
Năm giờ sáng ngồi lặng lẽ trong sương
Im như tờ những người cùng chung hướng
Mong nhìn tia đầu tiên ánh nắng mặt trời.

Trong mờ ảo của khung trời u tối
Miệng núi lửa cũ ẩn hiện dưới mây
Huyền hoặc trong mây cảnh đó ta đây
Mơ hay tỉnh ta đang đứng trên mây
Nhìn mây trôi lờ lững dưới tầm chân.

Haleakala hỡi một đỉnh trời tuyệt hảo
Trên ba ngàn năm mươi năm thước
Hay mười ngàn hăm ba bộ trên cao (2)
Khi tia nắng đầu tiên vừa rọi
Ánh nhiệm mầu của cuộc sống bừng sinh.

Từ phía đông mặt trời đang ngấp nghé
Tỏa cầu vồng trong khung cảnh thần tiên
Ta đứng đây sững sờ chiêm ngưỡng
Lời nào tả được cảnh thoát trần
Ta là mây là gió là chiêm bao
Ta là núi là sông là cây cỏ
Hay ta chỉ là một hạt bụi trần vương vấn.

Một hiếm có của đỉnh Haleakala
Những cụm lá bạc ẻo lả kiêu sa lấp lánh
Chợt thấy lòng thanh thản kiếp nhân sinh.

(1) Haleakalà summit nằm trong Haleakalà National Park, đảo Maui, HI. Con đường lên núi Haleakalà rất dốc, ngoằn ngoèo, khó lái, nhất là lại lái lên núi vào lúc 3:30AM rời từ khách sạn đến đỉnh núi sau cỡ 1.5 đến 2 giờ lái xe.

(2) Độ cao chính thức trên bảng ghi tại Summit Area của Haleakala (Púúuláula Summit) là 10,023 ft hay 3,055 m.

(3) Ahinahina (Silversword, Argyroxiphium sandwicense) ở núi Haleakalà là một loại cây hiếm có chỉ xuâ't hiện trên cao độ của núi Haleakala, Maui và Mauna Kea, Hawaii mà không hiện diện ở bất cứ nơi nào khác trên thế giới.

Sunrise on the Top of Haleakala (1)

The bitter cold shriveled me on the mountaintop,
Haleakala displaying splendid grandeur,
Bundled up in the morning mist at five o'clock,
Silent among others who shared the same intent,
Waiting to catch glimpses of the first rays of sun.

Nestled in the somber mysteries of the dawn,
The volcano's crater looming among the clouds,
I was gripped by the mystical cloudy scene.
Was it a dream or was it real, me 'midst the clouds
Hovering o'er the floating shrouds beneath my feet ?

O ! Haleakala, such a perfect summit
Soaring to three thousand and fifty-five meters
Or ten thousand and twenty-three feet (2)
Behold ! The first arrows of light have broken free,
Miraculous light of the awakening world.

From the east the sun was just now peeking,
Sending its sheaf of darts to bathe a fairy land.
I stood there deep in awe and in admiration.
What words could depict this supernatural scene ?
Was I the cloud, the wind or just the dream,
Was I the mountain, the river, or the flora,
Or a mere speck of dust too involved with the world ?

Behold the fresh sunrays on the Ahinahina (3)
A rarity on top of Haleakala,
Its silvery leaves glistening with grace and splendor,
And feel life's peace settling down in your heart.

(1) The Haleakala summit is located in Haleakala National Park, on the island of Maui, HI. The road to Haleakala is very steep and tortuous, and poses a real challenge to drivers, especially when the drive started from the hotel at 3:30AM and took one and a half to two hours.

(2) The Haleakala summit is located in Haleakala National Park, on the island of Maui, HI. The official height of the volcano, marked by a park sign displayed in the Summit Area on the Haleakala (Púúuláula Summit), is 10,023 feet or 3,055 meters.

(3) The Ahinahina (Silversword, Argyroxiphium sandwicense) on Haleakala is a rare plant that grows exclusively on the heights of Mt.Haleakala, Maui and Mauna Kea, Hawaii and cannot be found elsewhere in the world.

Ta đứng trên đỉnh cao đầy gió lộng
Vươn hai tay ngạo nghễ đón trời xanh
Trong bình minh tia nắng sáng lung linh
Thái dương đó ta đây kẻ độc hành.

Kiêu hãnh kia một vũ trụ xanh ngát
Khiêm nhường này ta hạt bụi trần gian
Nhỏ bé nhưng tấm lòng không giới hạn
Niềm tự hào cao ngút vượt mây ngàn.

Dawn on the Summit Of Haleakala

Here I am standing on the windy heights
Defiantly stretching my arms skywards
In the twinkling glows of the break of dawn.
There stands the sun, here solitary me.

So proud is the universe of its green.
Humble am I as a mere worldly mote,
So small but yet with a limitless heart,
And a pride that soars past the lofty clouds.
