4. James 3rd⁴ Pettigrew (William³, James Jr.², James¹ Pettigru) was born in County Tyrone, Ire before circa 1734, the first event for which there is a recorded date. James died October 7, 1784 in Abbeville, Co.SC. His body was interred in SC.

He married Mary Cochran in Ireland. Mary was born in Scotland 1713. Mary died circa 1784 in Abbeville Co, SC. Her body was interred in SC.

James Pettigrew and his wife Mary migrated to New Castle, Del. in Dec, 1740. He settled near present day Chamberburg, Pa. until moving to Lunenburg Co, Va. after 1755. After three years he moved to Granville Co, NC and in about 1773 he left for Abbleville Co.,SC where he lived near the community of Due West until his death on Dec 24, 1786.

James 3rd Pettigrew and Mary Cochran had the following child:

5 i. Martha⁵ Pettigrew was born in County Tyrone, Ire circa 1734. Martha died April 10, 1810 in Wilkes Co, NC. Her body was interred in NC. She married John 3rd Witherspoon in Pa., 1747. John was born in Scotland January 10, 1725/6. He was the son of John 2nd Witherspoon and Isobel Miller. John died November 7, 1778 in Wilkes Co, NC, at 52 years of age. His body was interred in NC.
