To Matthew…. My Tribute .

I know a boy called Matthew
An Aussie battler through and through,
A heart of gold, and spirit of steel
All there was to know, he knew.

He had wit, and charm and intellect
But was always there for his brother,
For a boy of just 11
He was like no other

His passion was his football.
It gave him fire in his belly,
You couldn't say a word
While he was watching it on telly

His team was the Canterbury Bulldogs.
The good old blue and white.
If they won a game, he was ecstatic
If not, then keep out of sight.

For years, he fought on bravely
No complaints.. not a word.
The doctors had said " Say Goodbye"
But Matthew never heard.

And back he'd bounce, so full of life
Over and over again,
Each time he came back weaker
But still never showing his pain.

And once I can remember,
When God was knocking at his door.
He wasn't going to go just yet
Cause he had to watch the DOGS some more.

Matthew had a special kind of magic
Exactly what it was, I can't be sure
His special blend of cheek and charm
His life touched hundreds, maybe more

God sent you here for a reason
Just like he did his very own son,
Your mission here was to touch our lives
You touched many .. And I am one.

You taught me one great lesson
Live each day as it comes,
Live it as if it is your last
Who knows when we again will see the sun?

You fought so hard for so very long
Till it was time to fight no more.
And with peace, and grace and dignity
You knocked on the Good Lords door.

So now with God, you sit and wait
For the day when your family will come,
A special day that will be the
Reunification of a mother and her son.

And now when I look skyward,
And I see the summer sky
And in the big vast blue and white
Little Matthew flies.

I can see you Matthew.
Playing footy -no longer stiff and sore.
Running though the clouds,
Like you never could before.

Matthew was the most amazing little boy,
I have ever had the honour to meet.
Matthew entered the Kingdom of Heaven on the 9th of November, 1998, at aged 11 1/2 years.
All of his life he battle a hereditry disease called S.M.A = Spinal Muscular Atrophy.
I have placed a link to the SMA pages. If you have a few minutes, please surf on
there and become familiar with the debilitating illness
that eventually claimed Matthews life.

Matthew ... I will never ever forget you mate..
you are unforgettable, and I am sure sadly missed by many.
