Snoop Dogg
Snoop Doggy Dogg (Calvin Broadus) originaly started out with 213. They were a big hit locally in Long Beach where Snoop grew up. Snoop got his big break when he was recomended to Dr Dre by Warren G. (Warren G is Dre's half brother) Snoop then made an appearance on a soundtrack with Dr Dre and signed with the newly formed Death Row Records. Snoop appeared quite prominently on the first Death Row project, Dr Dre's "The Chronic". Snoop perhaps made more of an impact than Dre did on this album, so the imminent album from Snoop was greatly anticipated. "Doggystyle" was a straight success and shot to the top of the charts. The singles "Who Am I?(Whats my Name?)", "Gin & Juice" and "Doggy Dogg World" also did impresively all over the world. The video for "Doggy Dogg World" was voted best Rap video for 1993. In 1994 Death Row released the short movie and documentry called "Murder was the Case"(Based on the song from "Doggystyle"). The short movie was about how Snoop gets into an argument with another nigga and he gets himself shot. Then as it goes in the song he is visited by the Devil or someone and he gives his soul to the Devil so he can live again. But Snoop starts getting greedy and the story goes back to the point where the gunfight starts, Snoop survives this time but is sent to the pen. This movie also has a documentry about Snoop and a few videos as well. Death Row also released the soundtrack to this movie, Snoop has a couple of songs on it and it features many other Death Row artists.

In 1994 Snoop was accused along with his bodygaurd of murder. It was not until 1996 that he was aquited of the murder . During this time Snoop did not release much new stuff apart from appearences on Tha Dogg Pounds "Dogg Food" and a couple of appearences on 2Pac's "All Eyez On me". Then in late 1996 came "Tha Doggfather" . There was much expectations about this album, however many people thought that it would not be as tight as "Doggystyle" without Dre (Earlierin1996 Dre left Death Row for personal reasons and formed "Aftermath Entertainment"). Most people agreed, however a few songs like "Gold Rush", "Vapors", "Groupie", "Snoop's Upside Ya Head" and "Blueberry" showed the content which gave "Doggystyle" its appeal. Snoop also features on the Gridlock'd Soundtrack including a duet with 2Pac called "Wanted Dead or Alive", he also features on two other songs called "Out the Moon(Boom, Boom, Boom)" and "Off the Hook" with Charlie Wilson and Val Young. The "Gang Related" Soundtrack features Snoop on a few songs but mainly as backup, "Hollywood Bank Robbery" is the only song with him with a real verse. Snoop was supposed to release an EP called "Doggumentary" sometime in 1998, but problems with Death Row prevented this.  The year 2G will see the release of the "Break Up To Make Up" album with Snoop and Dr.Dre coming back together. Snoop left Death Row Records in January 1998.  It seems that Suge Knight was not paying him what he was due (remind anyone of Dr. Dre?), he also said that if he stayed with Death Row his life is in jeapordy.  He and cousin Daz Dillinger have had their beef over Snoop leaving Death Row and Daz staying on. In March 1998 Snoop signed with the infamous "No Limit" Records owned by Master P, he is expected releasing a new album on August 4th 1998 called "The Game is to be sold, not to be told".  From what I've heard, this album is the shit.  The one big problem is the absence 213, Daz and Dre.  These are the people that helped get Snoop to where he is now, I guess we'll have to wait a year for the 213 reunion, which should be the best album of all time.
