Smiley Lee Tortoise

Smiley, a California Desert Tortoise, is three years old. I got her from a friend of a friend who raised tortoises. Smiley sits in her little tank all day except when I let her out to run around. Despite warnings from fellow tortoise owners, I feed my tortoise romaine lettuce usually. I'll put RepCal vitamins on it and I also give her various fruits and flowers.

Smiley's life can be put into three basic deeds: eating, sleeping and breathing. She's adorable but she doesn't do much. Of course, she has solved hard computer problems for me. One day I couldn't figure out what the heck was wrong with my AOL Instant Messager , and I had Smiley out on the desk next to the keyboard. She climbed unto the keyboard and hit a key; and I found out that I wasn't typing in my whole password (it had to be more than three characters) and the "connect" wouldn't come up unless you did that! So she has been a help when our own stupidity came in the way.

Smiley has been called the "monster" because she is the healthiest, biggest, strongest tortoise of her age that they have ever seen. I don't take credit for this, she just came out how she did, and she's not perfect, she has a little overbite. But her shell isn't squishy or soft and she'll eat anything you put in front of her, and pee anywhere she wants! She's overally a pretty well behaved thing.

(Note: I refer to Smiley as "she" or "her" but I don't know what she really is, a boy or a girl, because they have to be older to sex them.)
