The rose has such beauty ~ since the beginning it has been associated with love, and not without good reason. It grows everywhere ~ from cultured gardens to wild and forbidden lands; it is every colour under the sun; it can last forever. A rose will make you smile and warm your soul; it is a symbol of happiness and a tribute in passing. For all of its splendor, a rose has thorns: a form of protection, its demand for respect. Love is like that rose: for some eyes there is only thorns, for some eyes there is only beauty; for the rest there is a reminder to respect the beauty and enjoy it. The rose is a most revered flower. But never forget the importance of the thorns to a rose. Carol Ann Harper 2 May 1983 |
