Oulu Cathedral

The Oulu Cathedral was one of my favorite places in town. The Church of Finland is Lutheran, so most of the churches in Finland are Lutheran, as is the Oulu Cathedral. The cathedral is open for tourists during the daytime, hosts many sacred concerts during the year, and is the home of an international church service (given in English) about once a month.
The cathedral tower is visible from almost any location in Oulu's Center. It welcomes visitors and Finns alike upon their arrival in Oulu.
This painting is found above the altar of the cathedral. It portrays the Transfiguration of Christ.
In the back of the cathedral stands the pipe organ. Hanging from the ceiling, you see a model ship. Most Finnish Lutheran churches have such a model, as the ship is a metaphor for the church. When you get on board, you are saved from the raging seas of life.
