Alaska: On top of Mendenhall

Certainly the high point of my Alaskan vacation was taking the helicopter from Juno to land on top of Mendenhall Glacier. The view after you go over the first rise of mountains is spectacular. Unfortunately, taking pictures from the helicopter was unpractical -- I got the back seat. I'll never forget the miles and miles of crevasses, each of them sharp outcroppings of ice in a vast white field. If you ever visit Juneau, don't miss the helicopter ride.
