Alaska: Valdez

The scenery outside of Valdez is just magnificent. The tundra has so much depth and color, the camera actually can't do it justice. Besides being the site of the famous oil tanker crash, Valdez was a classic gold rush town as well. The orignal town, built on top of silt, deposted by glaciers, and tailing left by miners, was destroyed when an earthquake literally knocked the ground out from under it and washed it into the sea.
