PIT TALK
PIT TALK

I am a 23yr old man in school, currently working as an independent consultant. I have owned American Pit Bull Terriers and crosses their of for five years and I don't by any means claim to know all or a majority of the things associated with this breed. I can only speak from the limited experience that I have had in dealing with these dogs.

I have come across a few dog owners that claim to be experienced pit fighters. Most of them are just back yard brawlers that bump off a so called mean or hot dog that they think will kill another dog. And what is it with everybody thinking that a dog has to kill to be considered game. I'm not claiming to be the almighty pit fighter but I know that it takes more than a dead dog to claim deep game statis. I believe that a dog is born with gameness.

You can go back to the days of the old pit men(if you were able to go back in time)and ask the question. How can I teach my dog to be game? Most likely 10 times out of 10 they will tell you. "Son gameness is not taught, a dog has to be born with it". Now I know many people fight dogs in the pits but many of them are still unaware of how a dog is considered game. I've met some pit fighters(they claim to be)who think that you have to beat and train a dog to get him to fight. Some even think that you have to feed a dog red meat to get him mean. All I have to say about this is, if you have to beat, train, and feed a dog red meat to get him ready to fight then you are wasting your time. Again if you could go back in time the old pit men would tell you that gameness does not come from training it comes from within. Back in the days when the pit dog men were fighting and breeding dogs, they only breed the dogs that had the best tempermants. If a dog had shown any signs of being a man bitter, he or she was not breed, or even be killed. Today this procedure is seldom practiced. You have people breeding a so called hot dog to their best friends gyp. For this reason I feel that the caliber of good deep game dogs are only down to a hand full. But this is only my opinion.

NEWS & NOTES

Not too long ago there was a report on the local news about a pit bull killing a 6 year old child in the Savannah,Ga area. Of course I was sad and disappointed. Yes because a little boy was killed and also because an APBT was also killed. Now you may say how could he have remorse for a pit bull that has visiously killed an innocent child. Well first of all lets get something straight, I didn't say that I had any remorse for the dog, of course I am right along with those bull bashers on an issue like this. What I said was, I was disappointed.

Ok maybe you think I'm a little mixed up or confused with the definition, I couldn't be more clear. When I say that I am disappointed, I mean with the dog owner for keeping a cur like that. I know that you all think that a pit bull is supposed to be mean and visious but that couldn't be farther from the truth.

Let us get to the owner for a moment. On the news it was reported that these dogs were used for fighting and on several occasions acted visiously towards people in the neighborhood, I fault the owner 100%. If he was anywhere close to a true dog man he would have gotten rid of that dog a long time ago. I know he may have fought this dog and many of his others too (no dout against one of his boys 50 or 100 dollar bulldogs), I can also understand that the dog may have won a few. But any good or semi good APBT owner knows that there is no room for a man bitter.

I am not faulting the pit bull except for not being game, but the owner must burden all of the blame for this. To keep a cur and raise him as true should be illegal. So to add to the charges already pending, add another one, raising an APBT with no knowledge.

I know some people are saying, it could have happened to anyone, well I beg to differ, he could have stopped the crime before in happened. So to all you part-time pit bull owners. Get educated, read a book or two it could be the difference between freedom and you sharing a cell with Bubba or Tiny.

I'm not through yet. To all those so called friends and neighbors you sure didn't miss your chance to get on TV and the newspapers. You just couldn't wait to sell a brother out could you. The way things are going now I don't know whose worse those bull bashers or your own friends and neighbors.

Well I know your probably tired of me rambling on, so I gone.

P.S. Disregard the spelling please.
