Landon Christian is FINALLY here! At my 40 week appointment, on my due date, the nurse practitioner explained to me that the reason he still wasn't dropping all the way down could be because he was too big for my pelvis. She said I had a small bone structure and guessed that he could be about 9 pounds at that point. I was still only a fingertip dilated. She talked with my OB, and they decided to send me in right then for an ultrasound to get an estimated weight. The ultrasound was nice because I got to see my baby again one more time before he was born, and we got some extra pictures too! The estimated weight was a little bit scary though! Landon was an estimated 10 pounds 1 ounce. We walked back over to see the doctor again, and the first thing she said was, "Well, all we need now is a c-section date." She wasn't going to give me a choice...Landon just wasn't going to fit. They scheduled me for a c-section the very next day at 7:15 A.M. I was so scared but very excited too. We went home and called everyone and packed some extra stuff for the longer hospital stay.
Landon Christian was born Wednesday, January 18th, 2006, at 7:38 A.M. He weighed 9 pounds 9 ounces and was 21 1/2 inches long. His head was 14 1/2 inches around. The delivery was really scary and felt very weird, but I was so happy and forgot about everything else as soon as I heard him crying. Everyone talked about his long eyelashes. He is so wonderful!
Shortly after he was born, they noticed that his blood sugar was only 33 (needed to be above 40). They had to give him a bottle because they said my colostrum would not be enough to bring the levels up. He wouldn't take much of the bottle, so it didn't go up at first. They moved us to a private room where they let me try to breastfeed for the first time. His blood sugar levels finally went up after they force-fed him a little formula. Then one of the nurses noticed that he was breathing faster than normal. The neonatologist came and looked at him and decided to take him to the NICU. He had fluid in his lungs. They put him on 4 days of antibiotics and said the earliest he could come home would be Monday. That would have worked out because I was discharged Sunday, and we had to stay one night with him in their "family room" before we were allowed to take him home. They found out the next day that he had a pneumo-thorax, which they described as an air pocket that caused his lung to collapse. That was gone two days later, but the fluid was still causing him to breathe fast. They put him on 3 more days of antibiotics and stopped bottle feeding because of his breathing, so he was on a feeding tube after that, but at least now he was getting food as opposed to the first couple days when all he was getting was the IV. He wasn't ready to come home Wednesday, but Tuesday afternoon, they started him on bottle feeding once per shift. He did well with that, so the nurse practitioner put him on straight bottle feeding Wednesday morning. Wednesday evening, they let me start breastfeeding and following with a bottle to supplement. He was doing so well with everything that they decided on Thursday that we would spend that night in the family room and be able to take him home on Friday, the 27th. The family room time was great. It was very nice to finally be able to get up and take care of our little boy rather than having to sit back and let someone else take care of him. He was discharged at 5:00 A.M. the next morning (YAY!!!), and we left the hospital at about 7:00 A.M. We are SO happy to have our little guy home with us!

I had my very first ultrasound on May 30, 2005, when I was only 6 weeks, 6 days pregnant. You can't see much in the ultrasound picture from that time, but we were able to see his heart beating! My next ultrasound was on September 1, 2005. The pictures were much better from this ultrasound, and we were able to see that he is a BOY! We are so grateful for our little boy, and we already love him VERY much!!
