I went to Western Washington University in Fall of 1987. I thought about majoring in Biology, but wound up as a Vehicle Design major. I had fun with projects as a Vehicle Design major.
The first one was building a formula style race car for an engineering competition sponsored by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). We competed in Texas and took first place amongst the first year teams, second on the safety in design award and eighth overall out of 42 cars. Next I joined a team that built a solar powered car and raced it from Orlando FL to Detroit MI. As we drove in to the finish line I saw what a hell hole Detroit was. I decided to change my major to Plastics. We took second in the race and General Motors sponsored us for the World Championship race in Austrailia in the Fall of 1990. We took fifth in Australia. I finally graduated with a degree in Manufacturing Engineering Technology and a specialty in Plastics in the Fall of'93.
I worked at Plastics Fabrication Corporation in Bellingham. Where I made tools for fiberglass parts for a couple months before accepting a position as a Process Engineer at Tempress in Seattle. Tempress makes Reaction Injection Molded parts for power boats and heavy trucks. Big plastic bumpers for Kenworth trucks are the most visible product. I worked at Tempress for almost three years.
In May of'97 I moved South and started a new job at Puget Plastics Corporation in Tualatin OR where I am a Manufacturing Engineer. At Puget we injection mold parts for computers and computer peripherals, Cases for Apple computers and printer parts for Hewlett Packard are a couple of our big contracts .
