The Dreamcast started off strong, with a record breaking 300,000 preorders, and 97 million dollars sold on day one. Unfortunately, the hype of the upcoming Playstation 2 began to overshadow the Dreamcast launch and sales began to slow. Sega has now discontinued the Dreamcast to focus on becoming the top 3rd party in the industry.

The claims of performance such as "four times the power of a Pentium II 266" are due to the Hitachi processor being developed and optimized specifically for the Dreamcast.
