A few
days later.......
Angeni had just finished her bath and was rebraiding
her long hair
when she heard
a sound, she turned to see her father Chief Blackhawk
coming towards
her. "Daughter, there is an Indian brave who has
asked me for
your hand in marriage, and it is up to you if you wish
to have
him as your husband after your mourning period has passed."
He said without
taking a breath. "He is Zaltana, chief of our
neighboring
village, we have discussed this in great length, and because
it is
almost time for me to leave this mother earth to be with your
beautiful mother
and the Great Spirit, we are going to join villages
together, and
he will be chief of all of our people. He has told me
of his long
time love for you and wishes to be your mate." Angeni sat
for awhile
pondering before she spoke, "Father, my time of mourning
my beloved
husband and brother is just about over. And father,
I have known
Zaltana for many years and while I was attending him
when he was
wounded, I too have some feelings that I cannot explain
for Zaltana.
If he wishes still to marry me when he comes to our
village, then
I will accept him as my husband. Her father nodded
and said, "As
you wish my daughter. I forced you into one
marriage, I
will not another." And with that he leaves Angeni, and
travels deep
into the mountain. For days he travels, until he get's to
the very top.
He begins building a big fire, and then he strips down
until he has
nothing on but his loincloth. He begins to chant to the
Great Spirit
looking for guidance. For three days the old Indian
Chief fasts
and prays, and on the last day the Great Spirit shows
him a vision.
This vision shows of the two tribes banding together
into one and
becoming one strong nation. And at the head of this
one tribe is
his beautiful daughter and Zaltana, holding a child
high in the
air. With this the old Chief knows that this decision is
good.
With that the old Indian Chief goes and washes himself and
get's dressed
and leaves to return to his village.
In the meantime...........
Zaltana traveling home envisions what his life
will be like living with
Angeni.
So he travels far into the mountains to consult the Great
Spirit. He
to strips down to his loincloth, builds a large fire. Then
Zaltana begins
to chant and pray to the Great Spirit. For five days
Zaltana
fasts until finally he slips into the Great Spirit's realm and
the vision
he see's is one of peace. Two tribes combined making one
strong
nation. Joining together with his beautiful Angeni and him
standing in
front of their people. Angeni large with child and his
arm around
her protectively. He then thanks the Great Spirit for
showing him
his vision and departs from the mountain side to prepare
his people
for the move.
**********************************************************************
For days afterward Angeni readies her teepee and herself for the
return of Zaltana.
On the teepe she places the symbol for her chosen
ones tribe
and another symbol that shows the joining of her tribe and
his together.
Making her a beautiful wedding dress made of white,
with different
colored beads adorning it. She made herself new
moccasins to
wear, and a beautiful headband with multicolored
feathers and
beads. She places the symbol of a Great Mountain on her
dress to symbolize
her chosen husband. Soon she will be ready to
become Zaltana's
bride. And already she was feeling love for
this man.
The day came in which Zaltana and his people were
to arrive. There
was much excitement
in the village. For they were preparing for a
major feast.
There would be song and dance. The old Chief calls
together his
most trusted braves. Together to go into his teepee and
smoke and the
Chief tells his braves of his vision. The braves at
first do not
like this, but after the Chief explains about his vision,
they then agree
that this will be the best. So the braves leaves to
begin the preparations
for the joining of the two tribes.
Zaltana and his people enter the village. He is so excited about
seeing his
Angeni again. He searches for her throughout the crowd
of villagers.
He then spots her teepee and see's the symbol on the
outside that
represents the joining of their tribes. His heart rejoices
because she
has agreed to become his wife. He looks at her again
with
love in his eyes, and he knows that this will be a union to last
forever.
Later that night........
There is much song and dance, and a big feast.
The two Chiefs are
sitting together.
Angeni is sitting beside her father, casting sly
glances at
her future husband. She feels a strong emotion deep within
her and she
does not understand what it is. She did not feel this way
about her past
husband, and she loved him very much. At that
moment the
old wise Chief stands up and raises his hand for silence.
The villagers
gather around. "My people, it is a great cause for
celebration,
not only are we joining Zaltana's people, but my
daughter Angeni
and Zaltana will be joined together in three sunrises
as husband
and wife. Tonight we celebrate their union also. And
many strong
sons and daughters will be born between this union. And
will be a strong
Chief for this tribe. There will be many battles that
Zaltana will
be fought with the white man. And Zaltana will lead
you all into
victory." With that the old Chief sits down and the
music begins
again.
Three days later.....early morning.
Angeni raises from her mat, and just as she opens
her flap, there
are women there
ready to help her to prepare for her wedding. They
walk her down
to the lake and bath her, then they help her dress in
her wedding
dress. They brush her long locks of hair and begins
braiding it.
They place the beautiful headband that she has made
on her head
with the colorful beads and feathers. They place bands
on her small
delicate arms. They walk her back to her father's
teepee. She
enters the teepee, and Chief Blackhawk looks at his
daughter, "My
daughter you are so beautiful, you look so much like
your mother
whom I have loved for eternity. And daughter soon I
will be joining
your mother in the other world. To be forever at
peace. Zaltana
will soon be Chief of our tribes. Walk with him
daughter for
he is a good man. He will be a good Chief. And your
son's and daughter's
will be strong leaders also." Angeni walks over
to her father
and gives him a soft kiss on the cheek and a warm hug.
"Father, I
will miss you when you are gone. But I will be a good
wife to Zaltana.
I will produce sons and daughters that will make
him proud.
And I will never let your spirit die, Father, for your
grand daughters
and grand sons will know what a great Chief you
were.
I will miss you Father, like I miss my Mother, but I will
know that you
will be very happy and that you have lived a good
life. I love
you my great Father."
With that Angeni leaves her father's teepee and proceeds
to her own
teepee.
The birds singing and the animals playing. She notices that
the children
are playing also. A good day, she thinks, this is going
to be such
a good day.
The wedding..............
Zaltana and Angeni joined together in front of
the holy man. Not a
sound
can be heard except the voice of the holy man. Once the vows
are said, the
holy man blesses their union. There is much rejoicing
and the celebration
begins. Zaltana picks his love up and carries her
to his teepee.
Once inside, he lays her down on his mat. He caresses
her face and
says. "I have loved you for an eternity Angeni, I have
longed for
you since I was just a boy. Now you are mine, and will
be mine forever.
Nothing will seperate us." And Zaltana begins to
make passionate
love to the woman he has wanted for so long. The
woman
who has been in his dreams for as long as he could remember.
His soulmate.
His woman, his wife.
Angeni feeling the love radiating from her husband,
thinks to
herself, "My
husband we shall be together for an eternity."
To be continued.....
