The Mist

Chapter 1
When James woke up, it seemed like a normal day. It was a normal day except for two things, today he had to fix the fence, and a messenger from King Drake had come with a message for him. The pounding he was hearing was the messenger at his door so he got up, got dressed and opened the door to his one room hut.
"Open this door in the name of the King!" the tired messenger yelled. James opened the door to find a dusty old man and a sweaty horse. "Come in", James yawned. After the old man had a drink of water, he explained why he was there and who he was, his name was Gala. "You are to come as fast as you can to Drake Castle." So he did.
"James, I commend you on coming so quickly. You were here sooner than I thought." King Drake said. James was still awed by the many beautiful things in the castle when he got to King Drake. "I want you to go on a mission for me. Will you go?" James nodded. "Wonderful! This mission is of the utmost importance. Guards! Leave us! Now, James, I know you were born from a special lineage. The people of that lineage had a...gift that gave them the ability to move things with their minds. You need this ability on your mission. This is why I need you. A machine called the Mist Generator is, as it's name suggests, creating mist. This mist is abnormal. It turns animals that are in it against us humans and new monsters that are nameless are attacking villages surrounded by the Mist. I ask you to travel to this Generator, in secret, and take a special bomb with you. You shall travel alone because of the need of secrecy. I shall try to find someone to help guard you on your journey before you leave, if not, I hope you can do without or that I can find someone with good speed and fighting skills to catch up with you. The bomb is where your ability comes in. When humans (or other living things) touch it, they die and die instantly. Our scientists don't have time to stop this side effect so we need you. You will use your power to move the bomb, place it, set it, then turn yourself right around and run outside the blast radius before the explosion occurs. James, the mission is full of danger. Will you still do it?" James answers, "To the best of my abilities I shall accomplish this mission, my lord."
When James set out, fully rested, provisioned and ready, not a single person saw him leave except for the guard at the door who found out nothing of what James was doing or who he was for a while after that night. His first thought about him was, "dirty peasant, he is probably going to start up trouble but I can't leave my post. I'll keep an eye on him."
Two weeks into his journey he was getting bored because nothing was happening except for walk, move, rest, walk, move, rest, etc... And then he found the Mist. Humid but cold it was. It seemed elusive, taunting him to go farther, to go into the Mist.
It was then he was attacked.
He heard the wolves before he saw them. They were 6 strong. "6 to 1 is not my kind of odds. Let's even it up." James muttered. They jumped as he pulled out his sword. A wolf hit the ground seconds before his head. 5 to 1. He ran towards them swinging. Two more fell dead. 3 to 1. He sat down when the other three ran off yelping. "Whew! What a work out!"
The next day when he was traveling in the Mist he found a brand new (but unfinished) roadway leading farther into the Mist. He decided to follow the road a stone's throw to the right.
What he found at the end of it took his breath away.
He had found the Mist Generator.
