CHAPTER NINE

"I'VE FAILED. IS THERE ANY HOPE?"

As you have read this book so far, you no doubt will have thought a bit about what you have been involved in, or a friendship that you now have. Most of us have failed in one area or another to live by God's ideals for relationships. If not in our behaviour, then certainly in our minds. Some will have had full sexual intercourse experiences; others perhaps just played about a bit! Is it too late to have the best? Can you ever be a virgin again?

One of the many great things about God is that no-one is a total write-off as far as he is concerned. The love and tenderness He expects us to show each other, He also shows to us. To those who admit their need, He offers free forgiveness of all sin and the power of His Spirit to do it right.

In your physical body, virginity can't be regained because you have experienced sex and the memory is there. Much of the important action, however, takes place in the mind, and that can be renewed. Romans 12:2 tells us, "Do not be conformed to the standards of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind."

Some who have had sex outside marriage turn away from it and come to God for forgiveness. They take time out of relationships and renew their minds in a relationship with God and the Bible. In a way, such a person is more of a virgin than the person who wants sex, fantasizes about it, but hasn't been able to find someone to have it with yet.

There is good news then, for the person who has failed but wants to do right. God is right with you. He is more interested in your future than your past.

There is bad news for the person who knows better but decides to break out for a fling for a while. Your future life and relationships will suffer from the scars of what you do today. If you turn again sincerely to the Lord, forgiveness is available, but you will never be what you could have been. What we sow, we reap.
