My Passion is
CHOCOLATE!

and....umm....the picture says it all! ;)

I have always loved chocolate probably ever since
I was in my Mom's womb because she loves chocolate, too! ;)

I wrote a features essay about Chocolate below for my Journalism class at an University in 1986. Would you believe it that I got "A-" for that paper! LOL!

What is Brown, Tasty,
and has Many Lovers?

ŠAmy's Oasis

Mmmm. . . CHOCOLATE!! It is brown! It is tasty! It has countless lovers! Ah, chocolate lovers, please don't drool excessively as you read along.

Thank goodness for whoever discovered those cacao beans which chocolate basically comes from. They are found mostly in parts of South America. Because of those beans, the variety of chocolate tasties exist.

The brownish, always delicious stuff is seen and eaten everywhere in the world. There are chocolate cookies, pies, cakes, candy bars, milk, puddings, and even gum! Chocolate can be made into a plain chocolate bar, a moist, chocolate cake, or a chewy chocolate chip cookie. The quality of chocolates varies depending on what is made and the brand name it bears. M&M's and Hershey bars are regular pricedones while the most expensive brand is Godiva Chocolates. They are reputed to be tasty, high class, and gourmet chocolates.

We chocolate lovers and addicts sure know how it is trying to resist the craving for a bite of chocolate. When that feeling appears out of nowhere, my mouth produces extra saliva, my stomach makes strange noises, and my head is blank: all I want to do is to find some chocolate! This has happened to me several times, sometimes at weird hours. I usually find a way to get some in my system from the good vending machines, from "borrowing" some from my willing friend(s), or from my food supply if any is left. There have been times when not even any chocolate was available. Naturally, I was so very down but substituted other foods or drinks for my dear chocolate.

Chocolates have traces of caffeine which "stimulates" us for a while. I have noticed some athletes eat some chocolate before their games or meets in order to perk up their energy. Anyone who feels down should eat some sweet chocolate to feel better. But, the more you eat, the more you will want to eat and the more addicted you become. Once a chocolate lover eats chocolate, she will eat and eat until her body tolerance stops and tells her physically. I have eaten a whole bunch of M&M's until my tummy got so full and sometimes queasy. The cravings are because we are kind of addicted to the taste and the "stimulant", just as cigarette smokers are addicted to cigarettes.

M&M's is one of the favorite candies, and is seen in almost every store that carries candies. They are small round candy that are easy to handle and eat from your hands. They come with green, orange, yellow, brown, and black coatings with "M" on the middle of each. You pop them in your mouth like you do popcorn. M&M's advertising has its own special and famous quote, which is, "The milk chocolate that melts in your mouth, not in your hand!" One of my habits with M&M's is whenever I drink a glass of Coke or Sprite with lots of fizz, I drop some M&M's in and watch the colored coatings fizz away, then I drink and eat at the same time. Some people might consider this yucky, but think of those who love to put peanuts in their Cokes! That is yucky to me.

Conventions for chocolate lovers exist! Imagine a debate or a workshop on chocolate! I have seen some ads about them and crave to attend one myself some day, but they are rather costly. But, from what they usually offer, it sounds worthwhile for a lover to attend for the taste of it. There are even magazines devoted exclusively to chocolates.

There is a place that every chocolate lover should go in her life! That magical place is Hershey, Pennsylvania, where many kinds of candies, mostly Hershey candies, are produced and shipped everywhere. There is a Hershey park where you can go on rides and take a tour inside a building that shows how chocolate is made and how the candies are made step bu step. I was fortunate enough to visit this magical land with my family during the summer of 1977 and I loved it! I could have drooled all day but fortunately I didn't. The entire city of Hershey smelled of chocolate. Oh, how I loved those streetlamps. The light covers were shaped in the form of chocolate kisses! When we toured the building, there was a big bowl filled with melted chocolate. I told Mom, who is also a chocolate freak, that I would give anything to dive into the bowl and stay there! What a blissful thought! The park and city also sell a variety of fresh chocolate candies, chocolate labeled clothes, stuffed chocolates, posters, and great gifts for all ages.

CHOCOHOLIC=that best describes me and others who adore chocolate so much. Chocolate lovers make better lovers because your mouth is more apt to "melt" them, not your hands!
