I listen to a lot of different types of music. Its not really a type thing like it is with most people, I just listen and if I like it, it stays, if not, I change the station/change CDs. If you have to categorize me though, I guess Im into mostly blues/Classic Rock (whatever that means). I also like a lot of the old school rap (like Public Enemy) and some of the new music that used to be called Alternative but is now called Post-Modern or whatever. What I cant stand though is what used to be Gangster Rap and what is replacing it, the dance/club stuff. It isnt the music that I detest, and it isn't the people who write it because the Gangster stuff is mostly written by people who aren't trying to make a facade but just talking about the way it is (believe it or not!). Its all the little suburban kids and kids who dont live ANYWHERE near the ghetto nor would ever go there. They walk around and think that their bad-asses. They're not though! They're just little insecure kids who dont know who they are. It's no excuse though, they piss me off. Anyway, this is becoming a personal diatribe page instead of a music page so take a look at some links while I calm down.
Huffamoose Huffamoose is this band that I really like. They're cool and I have been listening to them for some time now. They just came out with another album so everyone run out and get it now. I think they're from Allentown which is by my way. RadioHead This band is weird (but then again...I listen to They Might Be Giants Most bands I like because their lyrics and music is cool, however, Radiohead is kinda artsy and I dont always understand their stuff. I like them mostly for the music, but there are a few tracks where the lyrics grab me and make me say, "yeah, he's right" or something to that effect. They also recently released a new album so again I urge everyone to try them out. Sarah Mclachlan Im sure most everyone who is hip to what's going on knows about her She has this one song that MTV (I feel another violent angry hate filled ranting coming on) plays at least 50 times a day. I pray she doesnt become popularised so a lot of teenagers can jump on her and say "I love Sarah, I always have". I dont think she will though. Her music and her lyrics are stirring and passionate and I hope she continues. She headed up the Lillith (spelling?) faire which I so wanted to go to but was away at school. I think if I did I would have gotten beaten up by a whole bunch of angry women cause it seems that the audience was mostly a bunch of "screw men" chicks!! The guys who did go were brave!! Genesis/ Phil Collins How can anyone not like Genesis or Phil Collins? I've been listening to them since I was in fifth grade, some years back. The new stuff with Phil's replacement sucks though. Their/his music is great and was really relevant to the goings-ons of the time. If you listen, Land Of Confusion is about how screwed up things were with the cold war. Jesus, He Knows Me if you listen is all about televangelists (right after the Baker thing) Another Day In Paradise is about the homeless epidemic. I guess I like them because so much of todays music is just shallow lyrics and some catchy guitar cords. A lot of it is just bullshit! I also like Genesis cause they were the first concert I ever went to. I think I was twelve. There's a funny story to this cause I was standing on my seat having a good time with my mom, (she took me) and I smelt this weird smell. I think I asked her what it was and she said marijuana. I was really disturbed by that cause although I had no clue what it was really, i had heard horrible things about it. Oh, to be young and naieve! Muddy Waters He is the man! The Blues begat Rock and Roll (after all, rock is the blues for people who dont have the blues!). The blues is great, it has that optimistic-look-at-the-bad-straight-in-the-eye stuff that I love. I dont know why, but Muddy Waters is the only blues man that I listen to. There is a radio show by this guy called Johnny Meister (spelling) on a local station and I listen to everything on it. But Muddy isnt old school, which Im not too crazy about, and he isnt the modern stuff that doesnt sound bluesy. He is a nice balance between old and new.Other stuff that I like are Morrissey, Sonia Dada, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, The Goats, bjork, REM, October Project, Billy Joel, Black47, They Might Be Giants, The Police Sheryl Crow, Rush, Eric Clapton, Paula Cole (whom I have listened to before that damn played out cowboy song, thankyou....). I will eventually get links and stuff on everyone as well as the ones I hate (Marilyn Manson, and a lot that the used-to-be- alternative-crowd listens to that gets air time).
If you like any of my music or know of anything you think I might like please mail me and tell me about it!
