THE BLACK MAIL
(Black as in sorrow!)
Ini isi surat balasan (E-Mail) yang saya kirim ke seorang rekan yang juga sesama pengamat. Bacalah! Mungkin ada juga gunanya bagi anda.
Hi!
I'm not sure about Prabowo's alleged role as the brain behind recent terrorism. My own analysis indicates just the other way around. Consider the following facts:
- In Kompas dated May the 8th (see "www.kompas.com/9805/08/NAPER/oran16.htm") it was reported that Letjen Soeyono was appointed by Wiranto as Sekjen Dephankam. He had misteriously disappeared right after the Juli 27'th incident (he was Kasum ABRI at the time) carrying with him the secret details of the incident, an operation he was partly responsible for.
- In Kompas dated May the 19th (see "www.kompas.com/9805/19/DAERAH/mayj11.htm") it was reported that KSAD Jenderal Subagyo Hadisiswoyo appointed Letjen TNI Agum Gumelar as the new Gubernur Lemhanas on May 13th 1998. A curious promotion for the Pangdam of Wirabuana (Ujung Pandang). Agum was famous for his successful "peaceful" handling of the riot of 96 in ujung pandang, the worst riot in the history of Indonesia (see "www.kompas.com/9805/07/NAPER/buka16.htm").
It is even more curious since Agum was the main supporter of Wiranto (Check out "www.kompas.com/9802/24/UTAMA/selu.htm"). In his own words, "Secara spontan seluruh Panglima dalam jajaran TNI AD sepakat memberikan dukungan terhadap Jenderal TNI Wiranto sebagai Pangab. Seluruh panglima itu yakni, Panglima Kodam, Panglima Kostrad, Panglima Divisi Infantri Kostrad, Komandan Jenderal Kopassus, dan seluruh pimpinan Lembaga Pendidikan di jajaran TNI AD." This statement is also curious in its own way, because such support is normal. Why state something that is already so obvious? What's the point?
- The kidnapping of students occured AFTER Prabowo had relinguished his command at Kopasus. When you think about it, the kidnapped activists were politically "insignificant". More prominent figures had dissappeared before. Permanently. The last kidnapping fiasco serves more to discredit Suharto and it also worsen the indonesian portfolio, something that Prabowo would rather avoid.
- In April Wiranto had created a committee of 32 generals (dewan jenderal?) to "develop an approach to political and economic reform". The committee requested the aid of civilian experts, most notably Nurcholis Madjid (Political analyst). (See "Night of the Generals - How Indonesia's top brass eased out Suharto" at TIME's website "cgi.pathfinder.com/time/daily/special/look/suharto/index.html").
- The US maintained a very close relationship with Wiranto during the last few months. Previously, I had thought that the links were to Prabowo but now I'm having second thoughts since Mega is also being consulted by the US (see "Editorial: Indonesia's killers" at "www.thenation.com/issue/980330/0330nair.htm").
- CNN reported that More than 2000 combat ready US marines arrived in Jakarta Harbour on three "landing" cruisers, the afternoon AFTER Suharto's resignation. The official statement was that they are stationed outside Indonesian waters in the South China Sea. Another 10.000 troops are in combat ready status in Thailand. All those troops just to help "evacuate" US citizens? Highly unlikely. Nearly all foreign citizen had already been evacuated BEFORE the resignation. (see "www.suarapembaruan.com/News/1998/05/210598/Headline/hl06/hl06.html")
- At the begining of May, the funeral of Jenderal (Purn) Soemitro was headed by KSAD Jenderal Soebagyo HS while Pangab Wiranto headed the "pelepasan jenasah". It is strange that the two Top ranking officers payed tribute to a dissident general who resigned after he failed to take over Suharto's leadership during the "Malari" riots. Also attending were "penyiar Proklamasi" Jusuf Ronodipuro, Sudharmono, Try Sutrisno, Surono, Rudini, Ali Sadikin, Kharis Suhud, Jenderal Besar (Purn) AH Nasution, Sudomo, Emil Salim, Jenderal (Purn) Achmad Taher, Wakil KSAD Letjen Soegiono, and Pangdam Jaya Mayjen Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin. It was ironic that such an informal gathering happened during a formal funeral of a "riot expert". By the way, Prabowo also attended briefly (see "www.kompas.com/9805/12/UTAMA/jend07.htm").
- Now from the mails that you sent, your own analysis shows that the riot was sparked by military personel in Brimob/civilian clothing, presumably the Kopassus. Such an operation requires only a handful of operators, which may and may NOT be under Prabowo's command. Remember that Prabowo is not a direct commander of the special forces anymore. It is probable that the whole riot situation, including the masses and the security forces (Army, Marines, Police), was a plan enacted under one command. The only person able to do this is the Pangab. This points to Wiranto.
Considering the above facts, I suggest that you redo your analysis. Check more references. I have reasons to believe that PIJAR is also run by the army inteligence unit. Don't take them for fools. On the contrary, they are quite smart. My advice is to follow the money trail (who profits financially!).
Do be carefull!
