Harlingen South Invitational


FridayÑVictoria High's boys and girls golf team led the way after the first round of the Harlingen South Invitational at South Padre Island Golf Course.The Stingarees, led by medalist Jason Louth's 68 were 10 strokes up on Harlingen South. Louth was 6 strokes in front for the individual title.Other Sting scores were: Caleb Etheredge 77; Pennington 79; Todd McGlothin 79; and Michael Trahan 88. Melissa Mitchell and Miranda Orr each had 83s, going for fourth individually, in leading the Stingarettes to a 22-stroke margin over second place Sharyland.Katie House fired an 86, Kate Meyer shot a career ! best 87, and Lynde Bleeker had an 100 to round out the Stingarettes' scores.
Saturday- Jason Louth shot a 143 to capture medalist honors and lead Victoria High to the team championship of the Harlingen South Invitational which was completed Saturday at the South Padre Island Golf Course. Victoria High shot a 303-304 for a two-day total of 607. Harlingen South was second with a 313 313-626 and Brownsville Hanna was third with a 319-314-633. Victoria High also captured the girls team championship with a 339-334-683. Sharyland finished second with a 361-359-720. Louth shot a 68 on Friday before completing the tournament with a 75 on Friday. But Louth was still seven strokes ahead of Weslaco's Mike Givalancz, who finished second. Victoria High's Caleb Etheredge finished fifth with a 77-76-153. Victoria High's Wes Pennington shot a 79-76-155, Todd McGlothlin had a 79-79-158 and Michael Trahan shot a 88-77-165. Sharyland's Melissa Teague was the girls medalist with an 82 77-159. Victoria High's Melissa Mitchell was third with a 83-80-163 and Katie House was fifth with an 86 79-165. Victoria High's Miranda Orr shot an 83-91-174, Kate Meyer had an 87-98-185 and Lynde Bleeker shot a 100-94-194.

Bryan Invitational Girls Tournament


Friday- Victoria High was in fifth place after the first round of the Bryan Invitational Girls golf Tournament at Texas A&M. Montgomery had the first round lead after shooting a 321. Katy was second at 327, Round Rock was third at 336, Round Rock Westwood was fourth at 340 and Victoria High was fifth at 348. Katy House paced Victoria High with an 83 and Melinda Orr shot an 85. Lynde Bleeker had an 87, Melissa Mitchell shot a 93 and Kate Meyer had a 100.
SaturdayÑ Katy House and Miranda Orr helped their Victoria High Stingarette golf team to a fifth place finish Saturday. House finished with a two-day 168 (83-85) and Orr a 172 (85-87) as the Stingarettes shot a 350 on Saturday to finish at 698. Montgomery took the team title by 16 strokes with a 641. They were paced by freshman Malorie Underwood, who won individual honors with a 75-73Ñ148. Along with House and Orr, Kate Meyer fired an 88 on Saturday for a two-day 188, while Melissa Mitchell shot a 90 for a 183 and Lynde Bleeker recorded a 92 for a 179.

Kingwood Tournament


Victoria High was a 12th-place finish at the Kingwood Invitational Golf lburnament. The good news was Victoria High defeated every team in its region except San Antonio Churchill and that included defending regional chamlpion San Antonio Clark. Opening the 30-team tournament the Kingwood Country Club with a 322 on Friday, Victoria High had a 340 on Saturday for a 622 total.Houston Stratford won the team title with a 303-312-615. Host Kingwood was second with a 309 312-621 and Humble finished third with a 315-314-629 Clear Creek's Keven Neuman shot rounds of 70 and 75 to earn medalist honors with a 145. Jason Louth led Victoria High with a 78-82-160. Caleb Etheredge had a 77-87-164, Wes Pennington shot an 83-84-167. Skylar Byers had an 84-87-171 and Wheeler Cain shot an 88-98-179.


New Braunfels Canyon Invitational-Girls


Tara Bland. firing a 75 Saturday played; a key , role in the Victoria High Stingarettes winning the championship flight of the New Braunfels Canyon Invitational. . After an opening round 98 Friday at Landa Park Golf Course, Bland's 75 at the Sundance Golf Course was just enough for the Stingarettes to edge out New Bruanfels Canyon for the team title. The Stingarettes and N.B. Canyon fimshed in a tied with a team score 626. but Bland, the Stingarettes' fifth player, edged out Canyon's fifth player by four strokes to give the Stingarettes the victory. Caldwell finished third with a 647, followed by Bastrop at 647, Austin Westlake at 675 and Sharyland at 690. Miranda Orr paced the Stingarettes finishing as fifth medalist with a two-day 151 after rounds of 80-71. Katie House was three strokes behind Orr at 154 after rounds of 85-69, Melissa Mitchell finished 11th individually firing an 89-69-158, while Lynde Bleeker fired a 91-72-163. Katle Meyer opened with a 97 on Friday before withdrawing.. Christine Kovalick of New Braunfels took top individual medalist honors firing a 76-65-141, while Stephanie Barry of N.B. Canyon was second with a 148.

Border OIympics Golf Tournament


The Victoria High Stingarees golf team scored a seventh-place finish at the Border OIympics Golf Tournament Saturday at the Casa Blanca Country Club. Victoria High shot a 315-331Ñ646 but was outgunned by Corpus hristi Carroll which shot a 303 21Ñ624. Scott Phillips took individuaI honors for Carroll with a two ay total of 69-77Ñ146. Jason Louth fired a 80-78Ñ158, and Wes Pennington added a 76-84 -160. Skylar Byers shot a 79-85Ñ 64, Wheeler Cain fired a 80-85Ñ 65 and Caleb Etheridge had 85-84 -169.

Northside ISD Golf Tournament


The Victoria High girls golf team finished in 10th place at the San Antonio Northside ISD Golf Tournament at the Pecan Vlalley Country Club Saturday.VHS shot a 378-352Ñ730, and the Stingarettes were paced by Lindy Bleeker who fired an 82 on Saturday. Austin ISD Golf Tournament


The Victoria High Stingarees golf team finished in the middle of the pack Saturday at the 44-team Austin ISD Tournament. The Stingarees fired a two-day 664 to finish in l9th place and 58 strokes behind the winner, Dallas Highland Park, which finished at 606. The tournament was played Friday and Saturday at the Jimmy Clay and Roy Kizer golf courses, the Stings fired an opening round 336 and came back Saturday with a 328. Jason Louth paced the Stings on Friday with a 79. He was followed by Wes Pennington who fired an 82, Caleb Etheredge with an 86, Michael Trahan with an 89 and Skylar Byers with a 91. Byers came back to lead the Stings on Saturday, shooting an 81, while Etheredge and Pennington followed with a pair of 82s. Louth came in with an 83 and Trahan shot an 89. Scott Abbott of Highland Park took top individual honors with a 1 under par 142.

San Antonio Northeast Tournament of Champions


The Victoria High Stingarees were able to leap frog San Antonio Churchill Saturday, but were unable to over take Boerne to finish second at the San Antonio Northeast Tournament of Champions. Both the.Stings and Boerne finished with 312s on the day as Boerne took a one-stroke victory with a two-day 611, to the Stings' 612. Corpus Christi Carroll shot the low round of the day at 306 to finish third with a 614. Jason Louth paced the Stings tying for second with a 72-75Ñ147. He was followed by Caleb Etheredge with a 77-74Ñ151, Wes Pennington with a 74-82Ñ156, Skylar Byers with a 77-82Ñ159 and Matt Hillyer with an 80-81Ñ161. Boerne's Matt Toohey captured individual honors with a 71-73Ñ144.

San Antonio Southside ISD Invitational


The Victoria High Stingarettes finished with a two-day 705 Saturday to place fourth at the San Antonio Southside ISD Invitational. San Antonio Clark took the team title with a 676, while New. Braunfels Canyon was seocnd with a 692 and Bastrop third at 704. Miranda Orr led the Stingarettes with an 81-85-166. She was followed by Katie House with an 82-85-167, Melissa Mitchell with an 87-93-180, Lynde Bleeker a 97-95-192 and Kiersti Orr with a 105-101-206.


District - Girls


Capturing four of the top six individual places Tuesday, the Victoria High Stingarettes cruised away from the rest of the field to capture their fourth straight District 28-5A golf title. Taking a three-stroke lead into Tuesday's final round, the Stingarettes easily walked away with the title after besting Corpus Christi Carroll by 20 strokes at Victoria Country Club. The Stingarettes finished with a two-day 344 354Ñ698, while Carrolled fired a 347-374Ñ 721. Stingarette Miranda Orr finished as first medalist. The Stingarettes, along with Carroll, now advance to the regional tournament to be held April 25-26 at Willow Springs in San Antonio. Orr, who had a two-shot lead over Carroll's Amy Autry and Jennifer Rogers after the opening round, won the individual title. After an opening round 80 at a wet Colony Creek Country Club on Monday, Orr fashioned an 81 on a windy VCC course Tuesday for a two-day 161. Orr had plenty of help from her team mates. Katie House lost a one-hole playoff and took fourth, while Lynde Bleeker was fifth and Melissa Mitchell was sixth. House, who finished at 84-91Ñ175, tied with Autry for third and lost in a playoff. Bleeker finished with a 92-89Ñ181 and Mitchell fired an 89-94Ñ183. Kate Meyer added a 91 93Ñ184. Rogers finished as the individual runner-up with an 82-84Ñ166. Autry followed with her 175 after struggling with a 93. They were followed by Casey Vanderventer at 101 98Ñ199, Kristy Kirkland 91-99Ñ190 and Laura White 92-102 - 194. The Victoria High B-team captured third place with an 821, while C.C. King was fourth with an 851 and C.C. Miller was fifth with a 1,000. Pacing the Victoria High B-team was Tara Bland with a 96-101 - 197. Bland was followed by Amanda Edwards with a 96 104 - 200, Kiersti Orr with a 102-107 - 209, Jenna Longoria with a 105-110Ñ215, and Danielle Cleveland with a 106-113 - 219.


District - Boys


With only two strokes separating the top three teams into Friday's final round, it was only fitting that the District 28-5A boys golf title come down to the final group of the day.Corpus Christi Carroll took a two-stroke Iead over Victoria High and C.C. King into final round and appeared to hold the margin with just one threesome still on the course. That was enough for the Stingarees to grab their second straight district Jason Louth, who shot an even-par 70 in the opening round on Thursday, breezed home with a 3-over par 73, while both the Carroll and King players struggled home, giving the Stings the edge they needed. "We did a good job of being businesslike and going out and taking care of business today," said Stings coach Ben Johnson. As a team, the Stings put the low round of the day together, firing a 305 to go with Thursday's 315 to finish three strokes ahead of Carroll with a 620. Carroll finished with a 313-310Ñ623, while King finished at 315-313Ñ628. Victoria High and Carroll now advance to the Region IV-5A tournament on April 25-26 in San Antonio. The Stings had posted a 75 from Caleb Etheredge, a 77 from Wes Pennington and an 80 from Skylar Byers which kept them striking distance of both Carroll and ing. Carroll had posted two 77s and a 76 to lold a four-stroke advantage on the Stings, while King stayed even with a 74 and two 79s with the final threesome still on the course. But Louth, who captured individual medalist honors, left little doubt of the outcome with his 73 as Carroll's Derrick Gibson finished with an 80 and King's Wayne Brock shot an 81 to put the championship in the Stings' bag. The individual title was Louth's to lose Friday after opening up a five stroke advantage after the first day. Louth finished with a two-day 143. Michael Yanez of C.C. Moody, whofired the lowest round of the day at 1-over-Par 71, finished in a tie for second-medalist honors with King's Sonny Rodriguez. Both finished with two-day 151s. Pennington finished tied for sixth with a two-day 156, while Etheredge finished at 157, Byers at 166 and Matt Hillyer with a 170. Gibson finished with a two-day 155 for the Tigers, while Scott Philip joined by J.T. Upshaw at 157, Josh Vandenbout at 161 and Victor Garcia at 166. Brock fired a two-day 158 to go along with Rodriguez's 151. They were followed by Erik Morales' 159, Murphy Dellinger's 163 and Tommy Berry's 168. The Victoria High B-team finished seventh with a two-day 666, while Stroman turned in a lOth-place finish with a 708. Michael Trahan paced the VHS B team with an 80-78Ñ158, while Blake Perkins added an 86-81Ñ167, Wheeler Cain an 85-85Ñ170, Jeremy Lee an 88-86Ñ174 and Wes Hendrix a 92-83Ñ175. Leading Stroman was Grant Murray with an 88-81Ñ169, Chris Flores with an 84-88Ñ172, John Gonzales with a 91-91Ñ182 and Jake Wright with a 92-93Ñ185. Martin Pitts and Lance Hansen, playing as individual medalists for Victoria High in the tournament, finished at 183 and 189, respectively.
