The word itself means diferent things to different people. Originally the term came from Ian MacKaye of Minor Threat. "Don't drink, don't smoke, don't fuck....at least I can fucking think!" It seems to me that many kids today have made up their own verisons on what straightedge "really" is. This is beacause they are just trying to make straightedge fit in with their lives and ultimatley are not willing to go all the way with the edge. It is sad to see so many kids getting into sXe because it is "cool". Personally I don't care what other people think is cool because I am the only one who knows what is cool. (yeah that was sarcasm) My beliefs mean so much more to me than just trying to look cool or better than others.

Of course I do think that kids who are out there smokin' and drinkin' and putting all these drugs into their bodies are making bad choices, but in no way do I feel like I am more important or better than they are. I do however feel that I am more aware to the evils in the world than they are...that enables me to help them. I think more sXe kids should realize and understand why alot of kids are doing drugs and having promiscuous sex. This society in which we live pushes so many evils onto kids. I know this...that is why I have dedicated my life to being straightedge. We should also dedicate our lives to helping people when we can see that they need help. What are we doing by just looking down upon them and walking away? Nothing. You can't change the evils in the society by ignoring the people they posess. Do something.

I also wanted to make some things about myself clear for all the people reading this. I am friends with people, not beause they label themselves a certain way, rather I hang out with them because they are themselves. I judge people by their personality, their additudes, their mind, and also their actions. That doesn't mean that I avoid them beause they might choose to do something I am against. People have their own lives to live, they can make their own decisions. I never try to push anything on anyone, because that is wrong, but I will always be here to help them, if they want it.
